VS 10 patch in the works?

Post by TDK1044 »

Does anyone know if Ulead are actually developing a patch for Video Studio 10 and Video Studio 10 plus? And if so, do we know which issues they are addressing? Personally, I don't have any issues with this version of VS in terms of the way I use the software, but historically now is about the time that we see the first patch from Ulead?

At the moment we are all eagerly waiting to see what the new owners are going to do in the way of ANYTHING. Whether that be patches, new products or new versions.

Sounds a bit ominous, Steve. Are you saying Ulead could be done, or just dragging their feet? Can you elaborate?

Dont read too deeply into my observation. I do not have any inside information I am just pointing out that ownership has now completely changed hands.

The heading of my post reflects my concerns
"Have things just got better or worse?"

Unless someone from Ulead wishes to spill the beans it is a case of only time will tell. I am as much in the dark as everyone else.

Has there been a further development since last year's takeover of Ulead by Intervideo?

Well, many Ulead employees I met when I flew to the company's Torrance offices in 2003 are no longer with the company.

Travis White (MediaStudio Pro) got a new job with Pinnacle.

Colwin Chan (PhotoImpact) left Ulead and I don't know where he landed.

Michelle Gallina got a new job with Serious Magic.

I've heard the Torrance office I visited (on Mariner Avenue) has been vacated.

So I suppose the InterVideo staff in Fremont, California might be handling many tasks that were formerly done in Torrance.

I don't know whether the Intervideo acquisition of Ulead will be a good thing or a bad thing.

I'm in the dark like everybody else.

However, I do not have any reason to perceive any aggressive new moves by Intervideo.

From my point of view, it appears Ulead is in some kind of strange "holding pattern."

It's odd.

Who is the product manager for MediaStudio Pro in the United States now?

Wish I knew.

Who is the product manager for PhotoImpact in the United States now?

Wish I knew.

Who's handling DVD Workshop?

Wish I knew.

I find it hard to believe that Intervideo would simply stop development of these products because there's some very valuable technology locked into the code.

It would be a terrible shame to see it wasted.

We all take the technology for granted, for the most part.

But the object layering technology in Ulead PhotoImpact is sophisticated.

It's the basis for much of what we see in Video Paint and CG Infinity and DVD Workshop and DVD MovieFactory.

I hope we'll find out who's doing the product management here in the U.S. soon.

So far, that seems to be a mystery.

Maybe we should find some other forum and publish here its name, just to know where to meet in case this one disappeared one day.
