Picture on an object (sphere) ?

Post by welchb »

Hope someone can help me on this, I have tried searching but not found the answer.....

I have an object, e.g. a metal sphere and I want to have the image of a persons head on part of the sphere --- almost as if someone was being reflected in the metal surface.

As it's a sphere, i'd expect the image to be rounded like a fish eye effect and the colours almost blend into each other....

I'm a little lost where to start with this so would appreciate any pointers.

Thanks & Regards,

Brian

Ulead cannot accomplish the task you require. Ulead is a 2D program. You require a 3D program.

The closet you can come to accomplishing your task is to create a round 3D Path object and then use the Fill Tool to import an image as a texture and fill the Sphere. However, you will get the effect of an object inside a Globe rather than on the outside.

A 2D program has height and width, and appears to have depth, but actually does not, instead uses a gradient fill to emulate depth.

A 3D program has all three measurements called Cartesian coordinates the X, Y, and Z axis, or, width, depth, and height. With a 3D program, you can skin an image over an object and make it look as though it is being reflected on the outside.

3D programs are complicated and expensive. There is a free Open Source 3D program you might try called Inkscape.

Make a 3D Round path object->Material dialog->Reflection->With reflection image.

hi guys,

Thanks both for your answers -- think this helps me out more from what I knew so I'll take a look at your respective suggestions.

Many Thanks,

Brian

Sorry keenart - just had to be picky on this one. Ulead is a company. PhotoImpact is the program we're talking about :)

Ken provided information for our Free Stuff forum about Blender. It's a free 3D program, and quite powerful. However there is a steep learning curve. I've played around with it on and off for about a year or two.

I am in big trouble with all of the Virgos now!! I have been happily married to a Virgo for more than 40 years.

I have used the Open Source version of Inkscape, but have not tried Blender yet. How does it work with PI?

DAZ brought Eovia and Right Hemisphere is writting a new Editor for Microsoft called MS Expressions, I believe. Sounds like the old Metacreations Expressions. Microsoft's intrusion is making the whole industry a bit shakey. Xara is feeling the heat and so is now going to Open Source in hopes of surviving. Ulead is well enough situated, I do not think it has any worries. Hope Ulead will port to Linux.

I don't know how it works with PI, I uninstalled it before getting PI. (The on and off has been more off then on :) ) One of the most difficult aspects of Blender is it uses alot of non-traditional keystrokes.

Expressions that is now owned by Microsoft, was formally Creature House Expressions. I still have the beta version that M$ released. It is a super program.

Ron,

I downloaded Blender, installed it, and it crashed. It won't accept the version of Python I have installed so will have to wait and try later.

Caligari is giving away copies of Truespace 3.2, old version, but it will work for a 3D prog.
