VideoStudio 9 SE- Newbie Problem/Questions

Post by noel harrington »

1) CapWiz--Direct to disk/old B&W movies: works as described-finishes with OK; good quality; BUT at the last few seconds of viewing DVD I get DVD ERROR and it freezes.

2) VStudio 98 SE-- (old B&W movies) For Title--is there a PLAIN screen without the terrible images?

3) --Used 'overlay' to experiment... HOW DO I remove it. Horror movie with Christmas overlay=strange

Thanks to one and all for your help.

1. Don't understand; More info possible on what you did?

2. Is it VS8 or 9?. You have color clips of which one plain black. Add title on that.

3. click on overlay clip and hit "del" key on keyboard

I think your basic problem Noel is that you are using the Movie Wizard and not the full editor, the wizard automatically uses a 'theme' which in your case is defaulting to 'Christmas' - if you select the full editor YOU get to choose everything - switch to 'timeline' view and blank titles, overlay, music etc. are all at your command.

RE (1) -- I have never used the CapWiz software, but can you adjust the burning speed with it? DVD read errors are quite often associated with too high a burning speed (and of course also with the brand of disc and all too often the DVD player itself -- the higher end, brand names being among the most choosy about what they will play). We often recommend that people consider burning at no faster than 4x regardless of the rated speeds of their burner and the discs.

Re (2) By 'Title' -- I am assuming that in fact you don't mean a titled within the editing phase of your video files, but in the burning phase -- and that you are really talking about the main page of your menu...?

Re (3) Again, I am not sure whether you are using the term 'overlay' in the sense in which we use it in the editing phase (overlaying a still image, clip, or 'title' in the second video track, with your main clip in the timeline); OR the image or images which form the background to the menus (again!)...

A little more detail would be helpful in understanding what your exact problems are...

Thanks to all for pointing me to the the correct terminology and ideas.

Will get to work to improve my end product and my vocabulary :?

Usually use 4x for burning... BUT noticed program used 8x... will no longer let the  program choose for me!

Most burning programs of which I am aware tend to detect the maximum speed of any disc inserted in them (which may or may not always match the rated speed on the package!) and set themselves to burn at that maximum speed. This is the first thing I always check, and adjust accordingly.

Burn speed

Post by Tippytoes »

Yep, I try to burn slower........but some programs only give you a limited number from which to choose.

Noticed my Videostudio 7 SE does not allow me to select any speed below 18X, I believe it is. When I am seeking 4X.

Given that there are as yet no 18x DVDs, I suspect a case of apples and oranges. The VS7 SE version you have probably does not even allow burning to DVD, only CDs -- in which case 18x is a relatively low speed, with 52x being the maximum for a CD (and still not advisable for burning effective video)!
