Movie Fact. 4 Standard Edition Upgrade E/S/D and Dual Layer?

Post by url »

I have the Ulead Movie Factory 4 Standard Ed (Upgrade/ESD) CD and wondered if this software is capable of doing dual layer dvd's after I captured with my Hauppauge win tv pvr usb?

I have tried, using Verbatim Dual Layer discs and get a message on my screen after the video (mpeg) from "My Videos" file has been processing for some time and the message indicates that "my burner is busy" and the process stops. (The firmware is uptodate as well)

I wondered if anyone else has had this happen?

BTW is the program that I have noted above upgradeable? I don't know if that is the issue as I have checked with my BenQ EW 162I and confirmed with their tech support that the burner supports dual layer burning.

It works fine with single layer dvd back ups.

I would appreciate any and all comments from experienced members.

Thankyou.

I take it your MF 4 came bundled with some hardware? It should enable you to upgrade to a never version.

Did you try the MF 4 update patch for DL support? It might not work with your bundled version though.

I thought IV was supposed to have DL support 'out of the box.'

Why do you think they have this patch on their web site? http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm

It doesn't say its a patch for DL support I therefore have no idea why they have it on their web site, do you?

The DVDMF 4 DL update pack improves compatibility for Dual-Layer burning, and it includes the support for RMD1 and RMD4 in Dual Layer technology.

Hope this helps.

Yes my software came with my Hauppauge win tv pvr usb 2 and I did not know there maybe a patch for it, however you say it likely won't work??? I bought the unit last November, 2005.
Love the unit and the quality of its reproduction of my vhs tapes to DVD, especially since my External Benq Burner the 162I has the "Book Management" program which I set so every DVD I burn is in "ROM" and thus plays on all of our families home dvd players.
That was the main reason that I purchased the BenQ Burner after I did all of my reading and research and my bro had so many problems with his LG and incompatibilities with our dvd players in the family. He now has a BenQ as well. (BenQ has no knowledge of the MF 4 either)

When I call Hauppauge in New York they tell me that they don't know anything about the software, and since the printing on my Disc says "Ulead Movie Factory 4 Standard Ed. (Upgrade/ESD) I wondered if this was considered the student or academic version??

What is occurring after I capture my mpeg 2 onto my HDD via my Hauppauge unit and I then try to process it onto a Verbatim D/L disc is that it will go through the process of :
1. Prep. menu video data
2. converting motion menu and then it starts the process of

3. Build disc content
and goes for some 30 minutes and then flashes on the screen that the "Burner is Busy". and nothing continues to happen.

That is why I posted re whether or not M/F 4 the version that I have supports D/L burning.
I talked to BenQ tech support in California yesterday and they indicated that my burner indeed supports D/L and confirmed that my firmware was current.
Then I did 6 regular backups since then and they turned out fine. 1 was from my Hauppauge unit and the other was just regular back ups.

So I am a little confused about what M/F 4 I have and whether I do qualify for this patch. And perhaps application of it would rectify my problem.

Again I would appreciate all comments, thankyou.

I don't want to get rid of my mpeg 2, thinking that I can't burn a dvd of it and then find out that I can.

Cheers.

Yes, the same thing is happening to me and at $1.50 a whack for ruined disk is not good. I think just another Ulead buggy problem, but maybe others can tell us how to fix it.

Can you read english?

And it doesn't say that it is limited to full versions either. Try it.

If I can write English, then I imagine I should be able to read it. Maybe you should be the one to practice up on your reading of the English language. Note my original question/comment:
"I thought IV was supposed to have DL support 'out of the box.' "
It seems pretty clear to me that the question is regarding support 'out of the box' or as it is sold without any updates or patches required.

The problem might be the burner and not the software. I recently had to change my existing 16x LiteOn DVD Burner for another 16x Liteon DVD burner after some idiot (probably me) allowed a foreign object to find it's way into the burner.

I had no problems creating DVD's with the original burner and discovered to my dismay that the first 3 or 4 discs I created with the new one all failed.

Same disks, same software same computer, just a replacement identical burner.

Before taking the unit back to the shop I thought I would check the LiteOn website to see if there was any updated firmware for the burner and yes there was. I installed the firmware and lo and behold the new unit now works perfectly.

Firmware is software inside the actual DVD Burner. Think of it as being the same as the BIOS in your computers motherboard.

For Burner is busy issue, check the update pack.

http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf_ftp.htm

Those update packs also fix some burning issues and most bugs in DVDMF 4.

If you have Ulead Quick-Drop installed, close it before you burn DVDs in DVDMF.

For disc compatibility with burners, check http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters to know what disk is compatible with your burner.

If you use a poor quality disk, it will also fail to burn.

Hope this helps.

Thx for the replies.
I guess the first thing I should do is try and see if the patch will work on the Ulead Movie Factory 4 Ed. (Upgrade /ESD) which came with my Hauppauge Win TV pvr usb2.

I am a noob and thus don't know if it will work with this edition.
As far as doing backups with this Benq 162I which I mentioned I bought in Nov of 05, it says right on the box that it supports Dual Layer and as I mentioned I phoned BenQ's phone support in California and they said that the burner does Dual Layer and the tech and I double checked my firmware together and it is the latest.

I burned 6 regular backups last night with my One Click DVD and Nero and my other program Clone DVD and as I mentioned I use the Book Management program supplied by BenQ and it is an exe. for ROM burning and I gave all of my backups done to family members and they all work.
So the burner is working fine. As of last night except for D/L burning.
(I have to read the Link for Burner Busy and see how that relates to D/L)?? I have not had the chance yet and thought I should post this reply right away.

This is my first attempt at doing Dual Layer and perhaps as I said I do need the patch and will attempt to d/l it. I will try anything.
If the patch does not install properly on this MF 4, will it create problems with the existing edition? That is will I have to uninstall, do a reg clean and then reinstall? Just thought that I would ask.

Also, I would really appreciate a little more info, as a Noob re the suggestion on ISO. I am really "dense" when it comes to these terminologies and need all the help I can get and really give thanks to this forum. I know that I must go out and buy a book on dvd burning as I am out of my comfort zone with what I am doing and look at the tutorials in detail.

If you don't mind to give a little info on where I find the "Burning Module"? and where I find the create ISO and burn ISO, and where the Down Arrow is.
Then I should be able to find the Down Arrow and uncheck the Burn Disc and check create and burn theISO. Then after I perform this process for this long mpeg 2 file from my Hauppauge unit I should likely then go back into thiis menu area and set it back to Burn Disk as I normally simply burn the 4.75 dvd's. I capture the DVD on my Win TV Hauppauge unit and then create a DVD with Movie Factory 4.
I did not realize that I can do another method for the mpeg 2's that I capture from my VHS tapes with Win TV, what I mean is that i did not know what an ISO process is after the mpeg 2 is captured. I thought that I would simply burn a D/L as I did with my regular 4.75 dvd's when I capture a vhs tape into mpeg 2.

I guess my last question is, when I do the ISO will it automatically go into my C drive "My Videos", as that is what will again occurs when I burn a captured mpeg from my Hauppauge unit?

BTW, yesterday I took the burner to my software tech and he installed MF 4 on his notebook burned a 4.75 DVD and no problem and got the "Burner Busy" message when he tried a Dual Layer on the Sony Brand as that is one of the media that BenQ recommends, either Sony, Maxell, TDK or Imation. So change of Media as suggested by BenQ's tech support did not resolve the matter either. ( We only get Sony or Verbatim up here in Canada and these brands listed earlier are the one's that BenQ says their Burners support and so I stick with their advice with great success on my 4.75 burns.)

Those brands have been tested on their burners and as I mentioned I bought jewel case dvd's at an excellent price, 400 of them at the store when I bought the burner and have not had one single coaster out of the 100+ 4.75 dvd's that I have burned using the BenQ Book Management ROM exe. and they all play on the families 7+ variety of brand and quality of dvd players.

I would appreciate all comments by experienced users, thankyou.

And once again I should say that I genuinely appreciate you taking the time out of your day to post here in an attempt to assist me in this dilemma that I am in.

I just reviewed the Link provided re" Burner Busy" and as I mentioned when I called the BenQ Tech support in California they indicated that the burner did dual layer, they asked for my serial number of my unit and the date of purchase and the firmware check we did together to confirm that I had the latest.
What I wonder now, after looking at this Link is there are 3 D/L's available:

1. 2005/6/13 and it is for the DVD Movie Factory 4 for the Hauppauge. My unit was bought in November of 05. If I d/l this could it cause me problems with my MF4 Standard Edition and will I be able to get rid of it if it does? I guess the only way to know if I need it is to d/l and try the program out?

2.Second D/L available is 2005/6/5 even earlier than the first one for the Hauppauge unit that I have and it is Build 4.01 and in the improved 8X the only models mentioned are the Pioneer, NEC and Lite On, no BenQ??
I don't know if I should D/L this for my unit.

3. Third D/L available is 2005/11/6 and it is Build 4.04 and it indicates in the "xp" section that this d/l will not work with DVD Movie Factory SE or Suite Versions.
So, I might think that my Standard Edition (Upgrade/ESD) which is on the outside of the disc will likely not work???

I would again appreciate comments, and I am also going to phone Hauppauge in New York regarding this software as I wonder if there is a later version of it that I should have??? Also I would appreciate comments on this, thankyou.

Cheers and I will persist on here.
