Importing Cool 3D Problem

Post by Gra »

Hi Guys

I'm not sure if I'm at the right Board here but I've made a title in C3D (not Production Studio) to overlay but when I try to import to MSP I get an error saying 'there was a failure in creating the dispatch. Please check if C3D was successfully installed'. Well it is.

I'm using version 3, which was bundled with VideoStudio 8. Is it because it was a freebie or are there some other problems that are stopping me importing?

As a last resort I've outputted to AVI and used the colour and chroma keys in MSP but it's not as good as it should be. Any ideas on how to solve the problem would be welcome.
Thanks & regards.

Gra,
.c3d project file created in COOL3D is Ulead's own native file format and is compatible with other Ulead products. In MSP, check under Preferences>Associate tab to see if Cool3D File(*.c3d) is listed. If it isn't, there is a problem with your installation. A re-install is mostly going to be your answer.

Hi, Rwernyei and thanks for that.

I checked and only have VideoPaint's vpaint.exe associated. Should I just point the association to the C3D exe or should I have more files than just VideoPaint associated?

If I do need to reinstall are you just talking of reinstalling C3D or do you mean reinstaling MSP8?
Thanks & regards.

Gra,
Open MSP and go to Preferences>Associate tab. Under File type there is a dropdown arrow. See if it lists Cool3D File(*.c3d). If it is listed and you received an error message when importing .c3d file, you would need to manually associate it to Cool3D's .exe. If not listed, try re-installing MSP again and see if it finds Cool3D on your system.

Failure in creating the dispatch

Post by Will Marwick »

I had the same problem with VS10 plus and found this on the Ulead site which resolved it...
Please try the following:
1. Delete the C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead COOL 3D Studio folder.
2a. (In WinXP/2K) Delete the C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Account\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead COOL 3D Studio folder.
2b. (In Win9x/ME) Delete the C:\Windows\Ulead.dat folder.
3. Type "Regedit" in the Run command of the Windows Task Bar and press Enter to launch Registry Editor and find the \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead COOL 3D Studio folder and delete it.
4. Restart the system.
5. Install COOL 3D Studio.
My .c3d now loads into VS10 but slows down the programme badly.
Anyone with suggestions regarding part two of the process ??

Will

As with other complex formats *.c3d files can be loaded but the real time interpretation of same is extremely CPU intensive and will slow even the fastest systems down. 3D takes a lot of cycles no matter what.

Solution: in C3D Studio use the export for video option. These are 32 bit RGB (uncompressed) clips that have an alpha channel, which gives crisp overlays. They also play/preview as fast as normal sources.

Another option is exporting *.c3d projects as image sequences. The best image format for this is *.tga with transparancy turned on. These can be imported using the *.uis (Ulead Image Sequence) filetype in the import video dialog (image sequence setups in the Options button).

Best to save these to their own folder given the large number of files involved.

Image sequences also overlay crisply but have an extra advantage: because each frame is a standard bitmap they can be loaded into PhotoImpact, Photoshop etc. for individual tweaking. This is handy if an errant pixel shows up etc.
