Hello all.
I seem to have tripped over a problem similar to one previously posted. MovieFactory 4 SE was bundled with my WinTV-PVR-USB2 and it worked. Liking what I saw I upgraded to MovieFactory 5. Now I am getting the popup with 'Failed to connect with driver : Hauppauge ...'.
I have been to the Hauppauge site and my driver and my middleware and my application, etc. are all up-to-date. On this site, since I'm running 5 the Hauppauge update for 4 won't install. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Gene Weber.
MovieFactory 5 and Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 Problem ...
Yeah... that was a one time deal between Ulead and Hauppage.... which of course was not renewed for mf5. You will have to go back to mf4 or use the hauppage capture program. And that isn't such a bad thing either... the Hauppage software (win tv 2000) may be pretty simplistic, but it dishes out some pretty good quality.
It's irritating, I know..... they did the same thing to me. I bought the Audigy 2 ZS Video editor, which came bundled with VS8.... of course the new video studio 10 doesn't work on it.... again, a one time deal.
Somebody should give themselves a nice swift kick up their own....

RE: MovieFactory 5 and Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-USB2 Problem ...
Be that as it may ...
I have been dealing with Ulead for less than 48 hours. In that time I have seen a function in stripped-down bundled software that caused me to purchase the latest full-feature version. That function no longer works.
Not only does that function no longer work, but the first two responses on the web board apologize for the company ("Yeah that sucks and we feel your pain") and when I phone what Orwell would have called the Ministry of Customer Service all they can do is give me the e-mail address to request my refund.
I am a programmer myself and have been in similar situations before. To suggest to a customer that you're aware of a problem but the developers are far away and the dog ate their e-mail address ...
It's not like they (Ulead) couldn't (or didn't) anticipate this problem. I also know that v5 is new and bugs are inevitable. I like MovieFactory. All I'm asking for in exchange for my patience is some assurance that the problem is being or will be addressed ASAP.
I am responsible to others and need to know if MF will serve our purpose.
Everyone who has posted a problem to this board needs to know this. Is that too much to ask?
Thank you. I feel much better now.

A couple of links for you to take a look at.
MF4: Create DVD from Hauppauge TV Card
Reinstallation of Ulead Products
I have a Hauppauge TV card and it works with MF4 and also MF5 but I prefer to capture via WinTV2000 as the native software for the TV card is more flexible (with the Hauppauge Card) compared to the general purpose capture module of MovieFactory designed to work with a wide range of capture devices.
Don't fall into the trap of looking for an "All in one" Video Editing Solution.
When you own more than one piece of software connected to video editing - use the best of whats available.
My Camcorder captures are done with MediaStudio 8
My TV card captures are done with WinTV2000
My DV (Camcorder) video Editing is done with either VideoStudio or MediaStudio dependant upon the complexity of the project.
My Analogue (TV Card) editing is done with Womble.
My DVD authoring is done partly with PhotoImpact and partly with DVD Workshop.
My Audio Editing is done with Audacity.
