I am capturing from analog tapes/camcorder with ADS Video Express into DV/AVi files
Editing with Ulead v. 7 SE......NTSC.
Wondering if maybe I should be setting my projects differently. Have been using :
DV/AVI
YUY2 uncompressed
720X480
29.97
variable bitrate
Somewhere I read where rather than frame-based, I should be using field-based...............And field order B because these are from analog tapes.
When I do change to field-based (regardless of whether I select order B or A), I see squares.......pixels are obvious when being edited in Ulead.
Do I stick with field-based.....and will it not show these squares when I finally render and burn to DVD? Wondering if these squares only show up when editing and will be smoothed out when rendered and when burned.
Have read Brian (I believe that's who wrote an extensive post on this), and still confused about it.
Trying to get the best quality from my analogs possible.
Know some of you are getting tired of my posts, but as I learn more and do additional projects, I have more questions.
Appreciate all the help from each of you.

So even though the squares show when editing, the final version should be OK?
That's what I am trying to find out............................
Guess I could burn 3-4 to see...................but don't want to use up my disks at this point............don't have that many............am not located where I can get any soon.
Sooooooooooo, any one with any suggestions????

Instead of burning disc(s), try creating DVD Folders (Video_TS). You do this in the burn module, just like you are going to burn a disc. Uncheck the Create Disc (or burn whatever the wording is), and there should be an arrow for more options. Click on it to open the options to Create DVD Folders and ISO file. Check the Create DVD Folders. Then burn. It will go through the same process as burning, except that it is burning to your harddrive.
Once you have the folders done, using a DVD player you can play it to see if it's ok.
You can check your video files, by opening VS7 and in the Video Library right-click on one of the video files you created, and select Properties. That is if you created video files before trying to burn to disc. If so you should see in the properties the Field Order of your video file. As MD stated for VS7 it should say Field Order B (for analogue), or Field Order A (for DV).
