Arghhh! I'm trying to replace my current desktop with a newer more powerful system and have run into several serious problems. This one is writing DVDs.
On my old system I have both Roxio Easy Media Creator and Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4 installed and both work and I use pieces of both occasionally. So I know they CAN work together.
On the new system, an HP Pavilion a1210n running Windows XP Media Center, Movie Factory NOR Roxio are working. I can write a DVD from folders with Movie Factory but I can't create folders or a DVD from mpegs. I can play the mpegs and they are the same kind I use on my other system.
A clue may be that when I start Movie Factory up it pops up a little box that says DVDMF and "key error". I tried to search this forum for "key error" but I can't figure out how to search for a phrase...
So after the little error Movie Factory starts up but when I try to import an mpg file it says"contains no video data". But it does because I can play them.
As soon as I point Roxio to an mpeg the window just disappears.
So does this give anyone information as to what could be wrong?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Judy

Thanks for the suggestions. Last night I did a restore to before I installed Roxio and now Ulead works. I applied the latest updates as well. I'm not sure Roxio was the cause, but might be. I have them both on my current desktop with no issues.
I learned restore is not completely reliable. There are a number of products that are a mess after the restore to yesterday. When restore tried to reinstall the 90 day Ofice product which I had uninstalled it got into serious problems and I also couldn't uninstall MF3 so the registry is a mess already on a brand new computer... Being a new computer, I had to uninstall about a hundred games and other junk like limited versions of stuff and it overwhelmed restore I guess.
So today I will carefully try to reinstall Roxio and check that MF4 works step by step and not get so far ahead without realizing there are problems.
The issue didn't appear to be with the writer itself. Both programs could use the writer. The loony characteristic was Ulead couldn't import mepgs but it could import folders and write a DVD.
I don't want drag to disk nor do I like things that run even though I never use them.
I thought the tbyb issue was with a trial version? I would have tried it but the system seems to be working now. Since the system is new, it's only a waste of a couple of days work deleting junk and loading my programs if I have to do a full factory install. Now's the time if there are still issues!
I think when I do a new system again I will proceed in a more organized manner to help restore work properly and to save my time if I have to go back. I will delete the junk and stuff I don't want FIRST and make a restore point to work from.
