Cannot Burn to DVD+R DL

Post by ssawsaydoe »

I just purchased VideoStudio 10 Plus

I am trying to burn 5 hours 6 minutes to a 8.5GB DVD+R DL.
NTSC DVD format
MPEG-2 Video, Upper Field First

This is video that I capture from my Panasonic Camcorder and I imported the MPEG files to VideoStudio 10 Plus to burn the DVD.

The rendering time took 8 hours 20 minutes. However, when the actual burning process began about half way through I got an error message that said the "burn failed".

Now the disc I have is useless and the it appears that I have to start all over again.

Any ideas? I really need some help. I have about 15 hours of video that I need to burn and this is really getting frustrating.

Somebody with more technical knowledge will be able to offer more detailed help, but I can tell you I had exactly the same problem, with VS9 and with Nero, and wasted 40€ because of it, and it was caused by the quality of the dvd disc.
I posted here and the answer was: "Use the best quality disc you can find."
It's a compatability thing between the disc and your burner.
I have burned/burnt (?) 'Platinum' and 'TDK' DL discs with no problems.

Perhaps one of the Video Studio Boffins on this forum would like to make a table of which discs work with which burners.

Go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdwriters and look for your burner in the list, it will list some disc which should be compatible with your burner.

Hope this helps.

It would also be useful to know something about the properties of the clips you are trying to burn and the exact work flow you have followed in importing them (from what source?) and editing them and preparing them for burning. While it is possible, trying to burn over 5 hours of video even to a DL is still a big ask...

Follow the procedure in the sticky at the top of the forum, and then output to an ISO file instead of burning directly to disk.

If the ISO file gets created successfully, use Ulead's CD/DVD Disk Image Recorder or another program of your choice to burn it. My Plextor DVD burner came with Plextools, which has the ability to burn disks, and my feeling is that Plextor knows their drives best, so I use that for burning multiple copies or DL media.

As soon as this table would be made, it would be obsolete again. I have used Verbatim disks with no problem from one spindle and heaps of problems from another.

There is only a handfull of disk manufacturers out there. The "Brand" disks can be made at any of these factories. It is true though that cheap disks, sold at the markets, are generally the most likely suspects for any problem. It could be factory seconds. Buying an expensive brand at a renowned store does not guarantee good performance either  but is still the safest method.
