Saving workspace including remembering open files etc

Post by fluffyben »

I would love to be able to save 'projects' - including all open files and position on the workspace. I work on various projects at once and when a customer asks for a change it sometimes takes a long time to put all the bits and pieces together to restart work.

The ancient microsoft Image composer was brilliant this - Textpad does it well also.

I don't know if this is a request for a new feature or Help.

As an astist for many years and working with many clients that require updates and changes, I have adopted a easy and direct method for keeping my work close at hand.

I create a Folder with a Clients Name, and in that Folder create a Folder with the name of the Project. I then make an Album for each Project. I can access the Album and click on the image switch to PI make any changes. Or simply access a Project from a Master Folder I keep on the Desktop that contains all of the Projects and Albums I seek.

Periodically I make a CD or DVD backup of that entire Hard Drive. Later, should a client asks to reuse a particular image I have a copy.

Thanks for your helpful ideas but I think what I am asking for is a new feature.

From the file menu I would like to be able to create a 'workspace' (maybe it needs a new name as PI uses that already). When I open PI I want to be able to open a named workspace and everything is as I last worked in it - images, tool settings etc etc. At the end of the session I want to be able to just exit PI and the state of the 'workspace' would be preserved until the next time I worked on that project.

Yes, I agree with you. I remember those good old days. A friend and programmer told me they discontinued the Saved Workspace in favor of a quick startup. In other cases, it took too many resources, as some would save too many files and brought the system to a near halt. As a result, the "Quick Startup" became the favorite buzz-word and easy-out.

Now days we have soo much memory and cpu speed it would seem possible to save a workspace with files. You should make the suggestion to Tech Support.
