Problems replacing text

Post by keblack »

Hi,
I just downloaded PhotoImpact 11 and I can't seem to figure out how to edit text on a website header. I looked at all the help files, but nothing seems to address this.

I have some pre-made headers (for websites) in PSD (Adobe Photoshop image) and jpg format - what I need to do is change the existing text on these headers to something else.

I can see how to add text, but how do you delete existing text on a header and then type in new text ?

If anyone could provide me the steps, I would greatly appreciate it. Sorry, but this is one thing I'm not very good at.

Also, does anyone know what a good site is to purchase more pre-made header graphics for various website niche subjects ?

Thank you very much.

Hello keblack, and welcome to the forum.

I don't know about the PS format but once an image is saved as a jpeg, it is no longer providing access to the different objects, like text etc. It's all merged to one image.

Try it yourself. Make a small graphic with text on it. As long as it is saved in the native UFO format in PI, objects like text etc. can be manipulated separately in PI. Once you save this file to jpeg (you will get a message from within PI to that effect) all objects are merged into one image and text cannot be changed anymore.

If you have the file in PS format, that should still have the layers intact.

The only way to change text in an image is to clone the sourrounding color background over the text to erase it and insertnew text with the text tool.

As to your other question, I don't know where you can buy headers. Why don't you make your own in PI?

Hi heinz-oz, you said that the layers get intact when importing PSD files into PI (12 is the case), thats right but I cant edit the text layers from PSD files, looks that PI rasterize the layers...is that right or I am doing something worng?

No, I said "I don't know about the PS format" but being a PS file I simply assumed that the layers would be intact, as they would be if it was the Ulead ufo format. Now, upon re-reading your post, you are referring to PSD files which, if I'm not mistaken, are saved images. I don't know if the layers stay defined with that format.

I have never worked with PS files in PI and, hence, cannot be of any assistance with that. I would continue with these in PS if I could not get them to work in PI. PI does not have true vector graphics support.

Being banner designs, you may also have them imported into the component designer in PI to work on them.
