VS 10+ installation error -- "component transfer error

Have purchased an upgrade copy of VS10+. I have VS 9 installed and am upgrading to VS 10+ from a CD. I get a 'component transfer error" that stops the installation. Other information that comes up in the error box is:

component: program files
file group: commdir_all
File: c:\program files\common files\ulead systems\dvd\ulcdrsvr.exe
Error: There are no more files.

Ulead support had me copy the CD to my hard drive and install from there. Same problem. Ulead told me to try another computer. I did that and it worked there. Ulead's answer to my problem now is that I must re-install my OS (XP SP2) and that will fix it. Sounds rather draconian doesn't it?

I have searched the web and have found that the typical answer is to try and copy the files to a CD and install from there, but nothing else pertinent.

Anybody else have a better idea than re-installing the OS? I can't bear the thought of doing that!!!!
