"Create Disc" option Unavailable

Post by tmiller123 »

I received a copy of videostudio 8 se basic with my firewire card, and it works great but the "create disc" option is grayed out and unavailable. The manual says the DVD authoring wizard is part of videostudio but I can't get it to launch.

Everything else seems to be fine, and there are no errors involved or anything like that. Capture goes smoothly as well.

I have a relatively new dell with a pentium 4 I think. Thanks very much.[/b]

The SE (Special Edition / Simple Editon / Whatever) versions are all feature-limited, and some do not have any burning support. Only Videostudio SE DVD can create DVDs or VCDs.

The good news is that you will qualify for a reduced upgrade price for the full version as an existing user of Videostudio.

Hi Tmiller, and welcome to the forums..:)

With the information you provided it seems that your VS8 SE version does not allow creating a DVD disk. Is the option to create an VCD or SVCD greyed out too?

The SE versions are free versions that are bundled with hardware. Some SE versions will allow burning DVDs, those generally have the DVD as part of the name (VS8seDVD).

Yeah I figured that might have been it. Of course finding that little tidbit of information in any of the literature, read me file, knowledge base or product descriptions is impossible. Go figure. Thanks for the info.

If you have Nero or the Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite on your computer, then you can do your editing in VS 8 SE Basic, and then go to Share > Create Video File > DVD to produce your DVD-compatible mpeg-2 file. Then you can open Nero or Roxio, and select the command for 'Make your own DVD Video' in Nero (there will be a similar one in Roxio). You insert your mpeg-2, build your menus and burn. Nero 7 has a much improved capacity in this regard over Nero 6 and earlier versions, and has a good choice of menus too. Roxio is supposed to be even better, though I confess I have never tried it.
