Most likely, your video drivers need to be updated.

Same issue

I am having the same issue.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Even tried running registry repair programs. No luck.

I did not have this issue until after I tried a free trial of Uleads DVD Movie Factory. Now I can not get the border/shadow/transparency to work. It keeps crashing whenever I click on it. I have had no other issues with this program at all.

I also have the most recent video drivers.

Any Ideas

I don't know if it will fix your problem, but others have had issues when VS and MF share files.

Maddrummer recently solved his (unrelated to yours) issue.
On this machine I just fixed the capture problem in about 2 minutes. I have this machine connected to a HDTV with both VS10 & MF5+ installed and VS10 has the problem of not capturing. All I did on this machine was rename the complete ulead directory under common files to another name. Then copied the ~/common/ulead systems/ "Directory" from a computer that only has VS10+ installed and can capture. This way VS10+ will be using it's own distribution files and not sharing them with MF5.
Did not edit any configuration files or registry entries.

Didn't have to reboot or anything. Forcing VS10+ to use it's original files in the common directory lets the program operate as it should. Funny that MF5 also captures even after it's not using it's installation files in the common directory. But, does all of MF5's features work, I don't know, haven't tested that yet. I can still capture analog & digital in MF5.

It's possible that on a machine setup likes yours not having this conflict maybe the installation and patches to MSP8 installs and replaces the correct compatible files in this directory. As you are aware it could be just one small file.

BTW, You pointed me in the right direction by stating the programs you had installed , and they all capture properly. The only thing technically common to all those programs is the ~/common/Ulead Systems/ Directory.

In my opinion this last test puts my problem of not capturing into a nutshell, replace the files in the common directory with VS10+ originals (or patched) and the program now captures. One could try to find out exactly what file(s) are causing this, could be very time consuming.
