Hi Again - my third and final post for today.
I use a separate video editor to place text into my videos. I find that the best way to ensure that the text is clear and visible is to make the font a light colour, usually white, and place a BLACK boarder around it. This works no matter if the video behind the text is very dark, very light or very "busy".
When I am constructing menus with DVD Workshop, I like to put text titles under my bookmark thumbnail pictures. I also put a "wall-paper-like" picture behind all that for each menu page and menu sub-page. The problem is that I often find that I can't read the text because the background photo is too "busy". I can change the font colour if the background is a consistent colour but if it varies, there is a problem.
I noticed that DVD Workshop has all kinds of text effects for borders, outlining and 3D and that's all very well and good but I would trade them ALL for ONE effect that simply puts a clean, clear outline around the text using a specified colour.
Have I missed something obvious or does there appear to be no way to do this?
Thank you in advance for your response,

Borders Around Menu Fonts
I 2nd that!I would trade them ALL for ONE effect that simply puts a clean, clear outline around the text using a specified colour.
You want the border to show-up or change color when you select the item, right? I've done something like that... I put a "bullet point" button in front of the text, leaving the text itself un-linked. I didn't use a thumbnail at all.
Try making the outline image with whatever drawing software you have. I think a (partially) transparent GIF might be the best choice. Set the button-color and transparancy as desired.
Drag that frame-image onto the menu and link it a chapter.
Now drag-in your thumbnails and text on top of that image, but leave the thumbnail and text un-linked.

Hi DVDDoug:
I don't actually use the text as active buttons. I just place it below the thumbnail squares for each of the chapters. I also sometimes want to place other text on the wallpaper area that is not active, its just there.
I like to stick with what works and what ALWAYS works is white text with a thin to medium-thin BLACK border around it. I doesn't matter what the font is. It will always be readable on any background. I am really quite astonished with U-Lead's nearly endless supply of specialty text affects - many of which are so similar that they are redundant - but NONE that provide this one simple and practical effect...
Cheers,
Mark
