Lost My Video Filters...Any Ideas???

Post by LoriBee »

I've been using VS 9.0 for approx. a year and all has been fine. Recently, I've gone a few months without using it. Now, I need to find the video filters and either I can't find them, or they've disappeared...either choice seems utterly ridiculous, no??? HELP!!!!!!

How could they have disappeared?
OR
How could I now be unable to find them??? How ridiculous!!

Any suggestions??
Thanks.

If you have the boxed version, put the disk in and do a "Repair". If you have the download version you will have to do a reinstall.

Thank you, Jeff. Is it typical for things to just 'disappear'? My husband downloaded it onto his jumpdrive so we no longer have it saved anywhere. Do you know what I'll need for the site in order to do a reinstall? Thanks again.

This is not an uncommon problem and I have no idea why it happens to only some users but not to everyone... Here is one suggested solution which seems to have worked well, not just in this specific case, but in others before it as well, as far as the new profile is concerned: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 8493#68493

I don't know about the second part of his suggestion. People in the past just made a new profile and that worked. Anyway, try it and see.

I also don't think it has anything to do with installing the Burger transitions. I have been using them for a couple of years (plus the Burger FXBench) with no problems. And I am sure others would have complained by now if the Burger transitions were causing any problems...

I Tired this from the post that you suggusted...It works like a charm, One thing that he forgot to add. From the user folder you might have to display the hidden folders in order to see Application Data folder. From there it is a cake walk.

Thanks

I have also had this problem with VS9 and VS10, I suspect that it is caused by adding 'Extras' like Burger Transitions, or Extra Masks.

I solved the problem by creating a new Windows User profile, then:-

From an XP user profile that works correctly, look for the file Vfilter.rsf located in C:\Documents and Settings\USERXX\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0 or the location specific to your system, and copy it to the correspondent location of your XP profile, C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR-USER-NAME\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0
You will find that the Video Filters will be available now in your own profile, and you can delete the new profile that you previously created.

I went to my daughter's profile (who just turned 3) and never really uses *this* computer anyway since I'm usually on it working. Her file (using her profile) was in tact. I tried to copy it and paste it to mine, but mine was/is already there AND I can't seem to paste. The command isn't available and not even with Ctrl+V. I even went back into her profile to copy and back into mine to try pasting again. Same thing. But although the file IS there through my profile, it still is not visible in the program.

So...I started working on my project from her profile.<sigh> Hey, it works, ya know??

Was just thinking: Do I need to restart the computer in order for it to 'register' or show up in the program through my profile??
OR Do I need to start a NEW project for it to open fresh and have i be present?? Maybe it won't show up in a project that was started before the filters were present or visible??

Thanks everyone for all of your help and suggestions.

I have never had this problem so have never had to use this workaround. However, Loribee, I would first ensure that Video Studio is not running. I would also move your own profile's Vfilter.rsf file out of the specified folder and put it in some other folder for backup. Then try cutting and pasting the other profile file.

Thanks Mr. Ken Berry, I will try that. I'm not sure if I had the program running or not. If so: DUH! on my part. And I'll try removing the file from my profile and copy and pasting it. Maybe the Paste option will be available if I make sure the program is closed. Thanks again to everyone for the input and suggestions. Sorry I was unable to find the original discussion.

Lori Bee, I have lost my video filters several times during the last month and a half...each time I use my repair function of my full box version of VS10+ as Black Lab had suggested early in the posts and then every thing works fine . I suspect the best solution is Ken Barry's suggestion, but I am too lazy or not confident in able to do it. I noticed that you mentioned it happened to you on VS9, that is interesting cause that never happened to me on VS9 ( I am using the same computer now, with VS10+). The only thing different from VS9 to VS10+ that I did was to load a Burger Transition packet. In VS9 I used individual downloaded transitions from the Burger site. I consider it a minor nuisance for now...

I recently lost my filters and I, too, have the complete Burgers package, but I have to agree with Ken that I don't think that has anything to do with it. I also had the Burgers with VS9 and never had a problem. I have had it with my VS10+ since it came out and never had a problem until last week. All of a sudden my filters were gone. The only thing that changed was I loaded the trial of Ulead Movie Factory on my machine. ( :?: ) Since I have the boxed version I used the Repair function and that worked. The only problem with that was I had to rebuild my custom library folders because I was in the middle of a project.

It would be interesting though to hear if others who have this problem with the filters disappearing do or do not have the Burgers transitions.
