MSP8 is Rubbish!!!!!!!!
MSP8 is Rubbish!!!!!!!!
That's it i've had enough, i'm going to go back to using MSP7. I used to love editing with msp7 and never, NEVER had any problems. But since upgrading to MSP8 even the smallest of projects is a chore, i'm talkng little 1-2 minuet clips of video editing very simply, but MSP8, just can't handle this without crashing and me loosing all my work, it's absolutely garbage. Msp7 would handle full length wedding videows with all the effects and tacky trasitions and titling, moving paths & video effects I could throw at it, and laff in my face and say " is that the best you can do" i would not even consider trying anything so risky on msp8, it just can't call itself a video editing program, because it fails and lets me down every time i use it......... I Want my money bacK !!!!!!!!!!

I think that what you are saying is symptomatic of a problem within your system, not within MSP8.
I was very satisfied with the stability of MSP8 until recently, when it suddenly displayed crashes and other problems at the drop of a hat.
Yesterday, I did a reinstall as I described in http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=15223
I have since done an 8 hour part project with many complex effects, on the trot, without a single hiccup of any sort. As a guess, there are some 60 files involved and the dvp is approaching 2 Mb con allegro.
I seriously suggest you try the same procedure, to the letter, and I would give you a 0.9 fractile probability that you would have no more problems. If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let us help you further, but to help you, you have to help us by a) reading and acting on the "read this before you post" thread b) telling us exactly what you are doing when problems happen and describing the happening in detail. We cannot help you if you just say "it crashes all the time". If it does, there is a reason; let us help you find the reason and tell you how to get round the problem - but, first, do as I suggest in the other thread.

Thanks Devil, that was really useful. I'm thinking of giving my system a big spring clean (hence my thread about archiving files).
I don't know if you cleared your registry out manually or if you had a programme. For those of us that get a bit scared when fiddling in registries and things, there are a few programmes out there. I use Registry Fix and Registry Mechanic to tidy up my registry.
I have Registry Mechanic load at start up and although it takes a few minutes, it clears out any unwanted registry backlog daily and its amazing how many MSP keys it cleans up.

I would agree with DEVIL...
I use msp8 for hd work which can be pretty demanding... works great for me. But then if you don't keep your machine in perfect order any program is going to act a little funny.
DISK IMAGING IS MAN"S BEST FRIEND!!!!
I keep a disk image of a perfectly clean and organized C drive, and once a week or so, I re-install that image... takes 20 minutes. I don't even bother doing disk defrags or any other regular maintenance.... not necessary... I just re-install my clean image.

Devil et al:
I have just in the past two weeks built a system that imho finally allows me to use MSP8 as it should be used.
Dual core amd 4400 2.2GHz proc... 2 gig ram... all sata drives and a rock solid Asus mboard. Running dual monitors on an ATI x1900gt video card.
Guys and gals... ULEAD used on this machine is every bit as good (and in some ways actually better) that the Avid systems I use every day at work.
You can open MSP8 video editor, CG Infinity and 3d Cool productions studio simultaneously and have the easiest darn workflow of any system I have tried.
Below are two screen images.. left monitor = screen 1 and right monitor = screen 2. Just click on em or copy n paste em into your browser to view the images. "Thanks Imageshack"

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1170 ... opy3lt.jpg
If anyone wants more info on this system..just ask. I have gotten so much help here at the MUG that anything I can share I would be glad to.
I have completed some redos of current projects on the new machine. The difference in render times is considerable. This dual core really seems to be the way to go.
So far have had edited 3 SD projects and one HD project. I am going to run the same renders on my non dual core Asus p4p800 based Intel 3gigger this weekend and I will report back with my results.
Anyone who calls MSP8 "rubbish" just needs to do as Devil says and reinstall a clean version on a "known good" computer. Works like a champ!
Hope this helps.

Re: One mans rubbish is anothers etc etc
I have avid liquid 7.... and I think msp is better... much cleaner... not as cluttered.... animated picons, unlike liquid... and avid's title deco sucks! In short, Avid's actual NLE section is great.... but everything else hooked to it is an outdated mess.tv_news_guy wrote:Devil et al:

But the big difference is that liquid is extremely hardware hungry.... can't run liquid on an every day machine the way you can msp. But you are right an up to date machine makes life a lot nicer.
The only thing I do not like about msp is the disk Authoring. Liquid's is a complete integrated system. I don't have to export and then import to a semi separate disk author system. This extra step if you will, is a pain in the ***. IMO, Ulead needs to come up with a COMPLETELY integrated disk author system.
Keeping them as separate "modules" is in line with how MSP has worked in the past (i.e. Video Capture, Video Editor, Audio Editor, and in prior releases of MSP you also had CGI and VideoPaint). Granted, some are better integrated to the Editor than others...neonbob wrote: The only thing I do not like about msp is the disk Authoring. Liquid's is a complete integrated system. But put a different way -- perhaps some folks have their Authoring package of choice, and have no need/desire to switch to a Ulead Authoring solution. If Ulead were to fully integrate Authoring, they would probably incur higher development costs and therefore need to raise the price on the MSP "suite."
By keeping them as separate modules, development can occur on each module on an "as needed" basis.
The version of MovieFactory that ships with MSP8 is good for quick authoring needs, but for more advanced authoring needs, I would think users will want to upgrade to an Advanced Authoring package. In which case, why fully integrate the current Authoring package...
Just my 2 cents...
Regards,
George
That will be 4 cents.
I too prefer to keep the longest computing section, the encoding, as a separate step from editing or authoring.
Please Ulead, let editing job for an editor, and disc writing to a Authoring program. And the encoding to an encoder.
1. get the project right.
2. encode the different parts as MPG files
3. Create a disk with the MPG files.
If 3 fails I don't want to start again at 1 or 2.
I buy the food in the store, cook it in the kitchen and eat in the dining room. I don't cook and eat in the aisle of the store.

All interesting stuff, but if MSP had an integrated authoring package, it wouldn't mean you couldn't export to another, prefered, DVD authoring pacakage or that if the authoring went wrong, you'd have to go back to step one of any project, does it?
All it would mean is you could go from project creation to the output DVD if you wanted to stay in one programme.

If you start a project, then ask for DVD authoring from within, and the DVD writing fails of Windows has hitch, and your application crashes, you start again at step 1.
If my DVD writing fails, I have lost the authoring project definition, if not saved, but the editing project file and the MPG files are still there on the disk.
I know Videostudio better than MSP, but I'm always frightenend by the people who load pictures in it and ask for a slide show DVD.
Ten hours later windows freezes, you restart your PC at 99% and you have ten hours to redo.
Prepare your NLE project, save, get out, encoder, get out, author, save, make DVD, if fails, redo just the step before the crash.
But as usual, to each his/her own.

Other programs such as liquid, or studio give you a lot of options for render to disk, to tape, to file (in many different formats). You get to choose which direction you want to take. If you want to go to disk, an integrated system is there.... you can go from the timeline directly to disk. It will even write a video_ts folder to the drive if you wish. If you want to render to file to export to a fairly detailed disk author then the option is there also.
What we are talking about here are more OPTIONS, thereby increasing flexibility.... not directives or one way streets.... nobody has a wish for this.
What is interesting is that Video_Guy hasn't come back.
I've seen in various forums many similar messages, especially regarding office and graphics software and utilities. Sometimes the OPs allow others to help them, they get over their problems and become satisfied users. More often, they don't because they are satisfied users of a competitive software and they get a kick out of denigrating something they see as may be better than the one they are used to.
The worst case I know was a CAD user of a certain software. He systematically went through over 20 forums, read them to find weak points of a dozen competitors, trashed each one in all the forums in favour of the one he actually used (which incidentally was not a very good one and was overpriced). Having done this, he shut up for a few months, then repeated the process under a different nick and with a different fault in each software. He came unstuck when one of the forum admins with a good memory noticed the similarity and compared the IP numbers in his registrations and found them identical. He then checked back and found the guy had 4 different nicks, all of them denigrating the forum product in different ways. The admin published what he had found on most of the forums and that shut him up!
Some people really have twisted minds. I'm not saying that VG is one, but his message that could discourage sales of MSP8 combined with his subsequent silence does make me ask the question.

I hope you are wrong Devil because people that try and hit web-boards such as this one for their own (or maybe commercial reasons) must be very sad indeed.
I've always found everyone really friendly (and patient) here, with those with more expertise not talking down to those us newer guys eager to learn and improve the technical or visual quality of our work. If what you say is true of Video-Guy, at least he actually created an interesting thread that led to discussion about integrating programmes, which probably strengthened rather than undermined our interest in using MSP and its wide-ranging possibilities.
Keep this board for those with honest technical questions and observations or for the more expert amongst us to share tips 'n' tricks is what I say!!!
