Hello,
I downloaded the patch with Dual Layer capability (Thank You) and on my first try to burn a DL DVD with 8.2gb of data the program told me I only had 8.0gb of space on the DL-DVD. The DL-DVD is 8.5gb in size.
Does VideoStudio need a 500megs (.5gb) for a buffer???
Sincerely, Bob K. Tucson AZ
VideoStudio 8 with Dual Layer Patch will only allow 8.0gb

Even a nominally 4.7GB single-layer disk only yields about 4.2GB of usable space. Furthermore, a double-layer disk doesn't have twice as much capacity as a single-layer disk.
You can always output to a VIDEO_TS folder or an ISO file and burn that with another program to see if the UVS warning is in error.

Drawing a conclusion from what I do know:
Disk manufacturers speak in decimal notation. Computer manufacturers speak in binary. A DISK gigabyte is 10 to the 9th power. A COMPUTER gigabyte is 2 to the 32nd power. So a computer gigabyte is a little larger; 4.7 disk Gb equals 4.38 computer Gb.
Using those mathematics, 8.5 disk Gb equals just under 8 computer Gb.
Hope that helps.

One of the posts caught my attention because it mentioned writing the video to the VIDEO_TS folder instead of burning directly to the DVD. I had alway done that in the past using VS7 for single layer DVDs.
I recently upgraded to VS8 because I bought a NEC 3520 dual layer burner and wanted to experiment. I captured my video using Constant 6000 bps and it was roughly a 5.6GB mpeg2 file. When I used the Share option it used a dual layer timeline, so everything looked good. However, when I tried to write the VIDEO_TS file, it quit after writing about 4.2 GB. I have plenty of disk space, so that is not the problem.
I don't know if the burn to disk works. I wanted to try this first because those disks are about $8 a piece.
I did install the Dual Layer patch and it didn't seem to help. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
