Latest word is that the processor fan was inop! Looking forward to retesting with a working processor fan.
Again, will report back.

GPU Issues

Post by siva0k0m7 »

I own a 8794 and after a year I've had to underclock the graphics card to avoid artifacts appearing on the screen.
When reinstalling the graphics drivers the 3D acceleration isn't setup up presumably due to the errors affecting device detection.
Try ATITool to underclock the gpu core and/or memory ... http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/downloads.php

video card underclocking

siva0k0m7,
Me to!
What setting have you found to work best?
I'm running at Core - 369 & Mem - 258.75.
Every so often it still does very strange things where the entire screen is filled with short dashes. I can tell where the mouse is by an approx .5 sq inch area that is slightly different. This leaves me with no choice but to power down by holding the power button.
I've also found that DVD's play jerky with Nero. They play a little better with the Ulead DVD player software but still not 100%.

I didn't understand your second point, "When reinstalling the graphics drivers the 3D acceleration isn't setup up presumably due to the errors affecting device detection. "
Any help with this machine would be greatly appreciated. It's very powerful but at the same time can be a pain in the butt! I've found that it is very sensitive to over heating. I pretty much leave the fans on full "Fn, F10" all of the time. How about you?
