The closest I have to PI8.5 is PIXL. Based on that Version here is how to store Tool Settings to the Gallery in the EasyPalette.

Open a blank image. Select the Brush type to call the Brush Panel. On the Brush Panel and Tool Options Palette make all of the settings to the size, style, and other options you want the brush to have. When all changes have been made, make a single brush stroke on the blank image. Later this stroke will become the Thumbnail that identifies the Brush.

On the Tool Options Palette, just below the Command Menu, Click on the Icon named Add (Add tool attributes to the EasyPalette).

The Add to EasyPalette Dialog Box will appear. Type in a name for the Brush, and select the default Tab Group, or change the name. You can only save Presets in the Gallery or Library. Click OK to Save your changes and selection.

To use the Brush Preset, click on the desired Thumbnail in the EasyPalette and make the necessary brush stroke in your image.

You can only import brushes from Ulead, but not brushes from other applications, such as PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, and so on. You can make a brush stoke from these applications and import as an object. However, that is not the same as an actual brush stoke.
