VideoStudio 9 crashes when saving a .AVI file

Post by gworthey »

Dear Forum,

I have a lovely small (50 seconds long) project that previews wonderfully.
The project properties are:
Microsoft AVI
24 bits, 800x600 pixels, 15 fps
frame-based
uncompressed
PCM, 44100 Hz, 16 bit stereo

When I hit
Share-->Create Video File-->Same as project settings
the program happily renders away until it hits 99% and then it crashes, without any warnings or messages.

Before you ask, yes, it *IS* necessary for me to save with exactly those settings in AVI format, so I am really stuck.

I have version 9.00.0100 of VS9. I found some updates on ULEAD's web site, but none of the bug descriptions seem to match this problem. I tried to install a patch anyway, but the "install shield wizard" claimed that I didn't have VS9 installed. Fascinating. Likewise, I didn't see anything like this problem on the forum - the advice there seems to be to save the project as a video file first to AVOID problems . . .

Can anybody help me?

Many thanks!

Try turning off SmartRender if it is on.

Thanks, but no go. I found the "Smart Render" button and it was checked. I unchecked and tried to export an AVI file with identical results.
Thanks for the try!

Perhaps I should add that I *can* save an AVI file of resolution 720x480 just fine. It is only when I try 800x600 that I have the crash.

Other trivia: the first option after "same as project settings" is supposedly a 4:3 aspect ratio, but it also claims it is 720x480 (a 3:2 ratio). What gets saved on disk is actually a 640x480 file, which is indeed in the 4:3 aspect ratio, although if you look at the file's properties with Windows Explorer it will claim it is a 720x480 size. I am starting to think that this portion of VideoStudio 9 is riddled with bugs . . .

Could it possibly be that your screen recording software has produced a faulty video file?
Have you checked it with another screen recording?

Thanks for the idea, Steve J.
My video consists of two JPG images. In the "overlay" I then have 4 different video clips. I have some titles and a sound track.

To test your idea, I simply saved the project under a different name and deleted all of the video clips. Result: negative. It still crashes when I try to save an 800x600 AVI.

I'll try some other things along those lines. All ideas are welcome for this as-yet unsolved problem.
Thanks,
GW
