How do you do a NICE fade In and Out from black?

Post by Mattcharles »

Ok, I know how to do the fae you use Cross Fade, BUT

when I go to fade it, it doesn't look right. How do I get it to look good? The fade that I use is a black clip from a video. Does Ulead have a black clip I can fade with? Thanks so much. :)

Matt,

Yes VS has what's called Color Clips. Click on the Video Pull-Down menu. You should see one that says Color. Then from there just drag a Black color to the timeline.

...And you can adjust the length of time it is on the screen in a number of ways. The default length it will stay is set in File > Preferences. But if you want it longer or shorter, you simply highlight the black clip in the timeline, and then, with the mouse, drag the yellow bar at the right end of the black clip either to the right (to increase the time) or the left (to decrease it). Thirdly, you can adjust the little timer clock which will show the current time length when the black clip is highlighted.

and don't forget that not only can you adjust the length of the black clip as Ken has described but you can also adjust the length of the actual crossfade transition - so it can be as slow as you like.
