nero dvd speed

Post by Doug2006 »

Could someone please explan how the nero dvd speed tool tests DVDs?
I saw on this post http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... c&start=15
how you could measure the quality of a burned dvd? I down loaded the nero speed dvd and it seems to only measure the speed of the burner but nothing to do with a burned disc. I don't have nero burning software on my computer now so do I need that. Thanks

Just idle curiousity - no information to impart as to your request, but at least this reply will push your post back up to the top of the board where somebody might answer it :-).

But why do you need this information?

Many knowledgeable people on this forum recommend burning at a much lower speed than the rating of the DVD blank that you are using. They have apparently experienced less errors when burning at the lower speed.

Have you looked at http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm?

You might be able to find information that you require there.

Personally I never burn above 4X - even though my blanks are now rated at 8X. I always use Nero to burn an .iso image created from VS and then I request a verification pass as well in the expectation that any errors in the media are detected at that stage.

Hope this helps,
Peter

Load a burned DVD, open Nero CD DVD speed and go to the Scan Disc tab. This test checks that all sectors of the disc are actually readable by your burner and will reveal any parts that are bad.
Now go to the "Disc Quality" tab. This one shows....the quality of your burn.
For a full explanation go to:

This is the website of the guy that wrote the program for Nero.

HI thanks for the replies. Milliken: when I burn with vs10 I do set the speed at 4 but once I have the folders on the hard drive and I make copies I then use the program Cheetah. I have found this program to work quite well with my computer burner and software. But in this program when you go to burn a video dvd it seems to jump to another screen and it just burns it and I don't seem to have any choice on the speed unless of course I have missed some setting somewhere. Having said that it seems to burn a 3.66 gig dvd very quickly and so far I have not had a bad one.
Lancecarr I have Nerodvdspeed and when I open it up even with a burned dvd in the tray I see no Scan Disc tab? I have nerodvdspeed and a drop down box for the drive, and a lightning bolt that says start, and an exit sign and under file it says open save results and options and next to that is run test with a list of test all related to the dvd burner. I could go back and download cd dvdspeed and see if that has scan disk. The main window just shows transfer rate and speed and seek time and cpu usage and the only clue to the disc is at the bottom where it says DVD-R 3.66 gigs. But nothing to click on.
