creative lab sound blaster audigy capture device not found
I am using a Hi-8 video camera with version 10 plus of visual studio and have connected the camera to, at one time or another, one of the composite or s-video connections on my creative labs sound blaster audigy 2 ZS video editor component. While version 10 does find my other and digital camera it does not seem to find the hi-8 as there is no option for composite or s-video showing in the capture source list box as the user manual says there should be. This camera still works well with visual studio 8 however. Do I need to uninstall version 8 before versoion 10 will work?

You say you have a Digital camcorder? Is it a digital 8? If so it may have pass-through capabilty. You could use it to convert your Hi-8 analogue video to Digtial (DV) format.
You should not have to uninstall VS8. I have VS8, 9, and 10+ on my system, and they all get along with each other.

I do really appreciate you taking the time to help me solve this problem but adding another step to what should be a very simple process is not where I am willing to go. Frankly I bought this software so I could do most of what I have to do with the software. Their manual clearly says that for a Hi-8 camera thre are a couple of source options, namely, composite and s-video. It takes long enough to capture all this video as it is without having to add another step that would probably deteriorate the original analog video in the process. I want the lousy software to work like it says it does and like version 8 SE did work. I cannot submit a proper problem form as they request since their signon screen keeps coming back with another signon screen. what is up with that. I am additionally that their quality control would allow an answering machine message to tell me in July that they will be closed for xmas. I mean, what kind of crap company are they anyway?

my analog video problem
I already contacted Creative this morning and they said they did not support other software interfacing with that device. They told me I needed to contact Ulead which does now seem to be an impossible task. I just tried their phone number again and am still getting the message that they will be closed for xmas. Even the SE version was a bit flaky, thus my "lousy software" comment. It took forever to come up and if it locked up, which it did frequently, you had to use task manager to close it down causing you to have to reboot because it would never come back up again after a forced close. There were other issues too more regarding the interface with the creative lab controller. It would work one day and then not the next, thus my stupid thinking if I upgraded to a full and more recent version some of these problems would go away. Unhappily, I have just created more for myself with this new version of Visual Studio. The main reason I wanted to update was that a few days ago, version 8 just quit working for no reason that I could see. The camera had still been plugged into the computer since the last time I transferred some video. Now for again some unexplainable reason, version 8 is working again. Another reason for me to suspect some "lousy" code somewhere. The interesting thing is the the Creative Lab audigy works fine with all of the rest of the software I am using and that is a lot so I don't know why the direct X issue should rear it's ugly head here. But you may be right on that. I'm no direct X expert, just been using it with my game creation software since the first release of it. Who knows, maybe ulead will get their telephones straighteded out again. In then meantime, now that version 8 is working again, at least it was an hour ago, I will use that free version for my analog until the problem with version 10 can be resolved. Once again, you have been more than generous with your time in regard to my question and I am truly appreciative

What I was stating is that if you have a digital 8 camcorder, that may have pass-through, it probably has a firewire (IEEE1394, Sony's iLink) port. Then if you have a Firewire port or Firewire Card, just put your Hi-8 tape into the Digital-8 camcorder, plug the firewire in and you can capture with VS10 to DV-AVI. It's less headache then you're experiencing now.
What make and model is your Digital camcorder? I use an old Sony DCR-TRV 120. It is a Digital 8, I use it not only for the tapes I record on it, but for Hi-8 tapes and as a pass-through to convert my analogue VCR and BetaMax tapes, to digital. When I say convert using it as a pass-through, all I'm doing is plugging my VCR into the camcorder. Then my camcorder is connected to my computer with a firewire cable. No extra work involved there. For my Hi-8 I just put the tape into my Digital 8 and away I go...

What?? Did you read something I didn't?maddrummer3301 wrote:I think there is something else conflicting because VS10 shouldn't take as long as your saying to launch.
A test on the computer next to me.
10 Seconds on a 2.8Ht 800FSB only one harddisk (not to the splash screen, the user interface, splash sceen is disabled). FAT32 Partition. 1 gig ram.
5 Seconds on the 2nd launch because of caching.
No virus protection on that machine either.
That computer has the "ATI TV Wonder Pro". ATI writes the capture drivers to interface with DirectX. Then VS accesses the DirectX interface to get to the card and it's compliant drivers. The ulead products work with the ATI cards but I usually capture with the ATI software and import into VS or MF.
