Editing VS10 smartscene menu with PI10?
Hi,
I couldn't get SEARCH to dig up a clear answer on this subject.
I tried importing the first smart scene menu from VS10 into PhotoImpact 10. I make one small change (resizing one item. I tried without doing anything too!).
Then when I go through the Make Menu function, PI does not look happy with the UFO because the Export button is greyed out.
If I anyway save the UFO, VS10 crashes to desktop when opening the corresponding menu in Create disk.
Is PI11 required for MF5/VS10 menus?

Hi,
The change was only a test. As I wrote, I even tried loading/saving without touching anything. The subject is that I didn't get it to work.
Using the first smart scene menu for instance, you can't alter the playing title's orientation. If you play a standard PAL image you get a small black zone on top right and bottom left of the TV.
Of course I could enlarge the original's size but then you lose the left/right borders. To change this you need to tilt the clip. You can't alter that from within.

Can't quite follow what you mean - I also use PAL and have no problem.
By the first smartscene menu do you mean the one with the large screen slightly skewed which in default shows a man with headphones on ??
You can fully customise the size of that screen showing your tile - even rotate it if you want so that it orientates with your videos
After you have selected the template from the 'Gallery' then next to the word gallery is another tab labelled 'Edit' - click on that and then choose 'Customise' down the left side and a window will open in which you can do just about anything - you can certainly re-size, skew, distort and move the thumbnail screen. just click on it in that 'customise' screen and handles will appear - trying moving them.
You can then save that revised template and it will appear under 'Favourites' in your gallery.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your time but no, you can't separately change the SCENE item in the menu (yes we speak about the same).
Of course you can move/resize/rotate the combo TV-set-frame+scene-behind but that doesn't help the relative placement.
The black zones due to the scene being presented horizontally, while the TV is shown at an angle must be edited within the menu definition.
You can't access the scene, only alter the TV frame WITH the scene.
And besides this is just an example, my question is more can we do it or not, whatever the modification required.
My point is VS10 crashes with an edited menu and it looks like PI10 can't handle MF5°VS10 stuff, while my sole interest in PI10 was the menu editing. I already have image editors powerful enough for the rest.
Maybe I should crosspost this in PhotoImpact (and Movie Factory) forums?

sorry to labour the point daniel - but you can seperate and move everything in that smartscene menu , if you have a look at this :-
[ link removed to avoid confusion - picture relocated - see picture in post below ]
you will see that I have moved just about everything - and that I do not have any black corners in the video window.
edit - - couldn't get the .img tags to work - is there some other secret to displaying images in posts - I just get this

re-edit - - got it now - see below

What seems to be causing the problem is the code after the .jpg extension. the board probably thinks it's an invalid image file...

The Sri Lanka picture is nice.
I'd like to be able to change the images that are behind that smart menu choice - and even make THEM menu choices (in a fashion similar to how the the thumbnail choice set works.)
I will look around through the board for information on this (another) subject but - I just bought Movie Factory 5 - and I am disappointed - There not much there in terms of additional templates. I expected more.
Furthermore, (this is what I hope to find) there must be a way to get the templates in 10+ to show up im MF (aptly named, btw) and visa-versa.

Thanks, Ron.
I also copied the sets of "Scene" templates back and forth. (these are the "thumbnail" type menus.) I picked up a few new ones both ways.
I appreciate your help.
I did not have VS9 - so I guess I do not have a bunch of menus (and decorations - I never use). VS 8 - has a bunch of *.ufo files buried in the template/ folder. I hesitate to copy these to VS10 and MF5 because there is not accompanying *.ini files. Am I correct to not copy those?
As I said before, I expected more. But as you know - I am very happy with VS.

Russ - the menu templates in VS9 do not have .ini files with them either and they all work when you transfer them to 10 so there is a very good chance that templates from VS8 would work OK
I played around a bit more with the menu templates in V10+ and produced this :-
This is not a 'Smartscene' menu but one of the 'thumbnail' menus that I modified within VideoStudio10
ALL FOUR of the thumbnail images are 'Active' that is they each play a video clip - as far as I can see you can do just about everything to any of the menu templates within VideoStudio

Oh don't be sorry, I am the one with the question...BrianCee wrote:sorry to labour the point daniel - but you can seperate and move everything in that smartscene menu , if you have a look at this :-
But in your example you still show what I'm complaining about.
You move the TV with the scene but they were moved together.
Your scene is still level within the TV and you have no borders probably because the picture is either enlarged or fills the frame exactly, removing the need to rotate it.
If you get to the standard Ulead V01 video (name HM_Happy_Birthday_Start.AVI) because it is nearly white.
Just go to Create disc and you get the borders. No way to remove them by rotating the scene. You can do this but it doesn't help...
