It should be showing up in C:\Program Files\Ulead GIF-X.Plugin 2.0.

Does it show in the list of filters in GA 5? In GA 5, you would click "Filters" and it should be in the list in Ulead Effects.

If you go to the control panel and open "Add/Remove Programs," is it listed in there?

What other imaging software do you have - PhotoImpact, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, or just GIF Animator?

Well, in case anyone else is having issues with this...

When GIF-X 2 is installing, it asks if you are using a Photoshop compatible program. If you do not have one, it says to click "Ignore." If you do, then you must select the proper plug-ins folder for the application you do have. If you don't, then you click ignore.

If you've chosen "Ignore," then to set up GIF Animator 5 (GA 5) to use GIF-X 2.0, you must open GA 5. Click File, Preferences... Go to the Plugins tab.

Image

Select the folder "C:\Program Files\Ulead GIF-X.Plugin 2.0\Aps"

Click OK, and close GA 5, then reopen GA 5. GIF-X 2 will now be listed under "Ulead" when you click on "Filters" in GIF Animator 5.

The ReadMe file for GIF-X 2 states: "You can add Ulead GIF-X.Plugin 2.0 into your image editor (Adobe
Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Ulead PhotoImpact, Ulead GIF Animator, etc.)
by pointing the plug-in folder to GIF-X.Plugin 2.0\APS or copying the
AniGif2.8bf file under GIF-X.Plugin 2.0\APS to the plug-in folder of
the image editor."

Having Gif-X installation problem

Post by highoctaneradio »

Hi, I just purchased the Gif X plugin last night and ran into the same problem. I get the error message that states that a version of Gif Animator 2.0 or higher can not be located on my computer. I have read through everything in this forum topic and still have not found a solution. I am using the GA5. Perhaps I have misunderstood or overlooked the answer in this forum. I just didn't see what I need to do in order to get this program to install. Any suggestions is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
It should be showing up in C:\Program Files\Ulead GIF-X.Plugin 2.0.

It does not. It will not go further on the download, due to the error, so a program file is not created.

Does it show in the list of filters in GA 5? In GA 5, you would click "Filters" and it should be in the list in Ulead Effects.

No, it is not listed.

If you go to the control panel and open "Add/Remove Programs," is it listed in there?

No, it is not listed in the Add/Remove programs section either

What other imaging software do you have - PhotoImpact, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, or just GIF Animator?

I use Photoshop CS2, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks and Namo banner creator. I have Paintshop Pro, but have never used it.

If it's not listed in the Add/Remove programs list, try reinstalling it. Be sure to read every step carefully before you click "Next." Also make sure you are logged into Windows as an Administrator. When you get to the section where it wants the Photoshop compatible program, click "Browse" and navigate to PSP's plugin folder and select that.

Hi,

I am sorry for not getting back with you. I still can not get this install file to work. I have made numerous attempts to reinstall, re-downloaded the program numerous times and I still get the same message. I have included a screenshot of the message I get when I try to install the plugin.

Image

I am the admin on this computer and I have gone through everything listed in this topic as far as what to try in order to get this to work. Also, I can not get the registration number of this product, so it is useless for me to try to contact the Ulead Tech Support. I do not know what else I can do... :( Do you have any other suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Ah, that's not the GIF-X 2.0 plugin, but Ulead F/X for GA... A different bird altogether, that one. GIF-X 2.0 is a Photoshop-compatible plugin, but Ulead F/X is for GIF Animator only.

A couple questions:

What is the complete path to where you have GIF Animator installed?

Do you have the orginal GIF Animator 5 CD or download file in case reinstalling GA 5 is needed?

I will have to check for the original download file, but here is the path...

"C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead GIF Animator 5 TBYB"

I take it you have the trial version of GIF Animator installed, not the full version?

That may be the problem, I'm guessing...

According to the F/X page, it says:
NOTE: GIF Animator 2.0 (or higher) full version must be installed on your system before installing F/X for GIF Animator plug-ins.
Note that it says full version.

hum...as far as I know I purchased the full version. I used the trial version for a short time and liked it so much, that I didn't hesitate making the purchase immediately. I did register my product, so perhaps I should contact Ulead to verify wether I do or do not have the full version.

If you didn't uninstall the trial before you installed the full, that may be the issue. The trial is good for only 15 days, so if you've had it longer than that and it still works...

Make sure you have the full version download on your system before uninstalling.

Just because I have to ask... Are you sure you bought the GIF Animator full version, or the Ulead F/X? If you didn't pay more than $20, then it could be you don't have the GA 5 full...

I know it was more than $20.00. I only have one Gif Animator 5 program in my programs files. I'll double check. I've been using it for quite a while now. Close to a year now I believe. I sent a message to the tech support to verify that that my registered version of Gif Animator is in fact a full version. I'll check back in in a few to let you know what I find in the programs file. I do know that I had to have my computer reformated and I had to contact Ulead to get a new download for the Gif Animator 5. That was before Christmas last year. I'll check my old email messages as well for further info. Thank you for taking the time to help me with this. BRB

I do hope you have the GA 5 full download - I suspect it will have to be reinstalled before Ulead F/X will work.

Okay, I just downloaded the GA5 from the Ulead FTP. If I remeber correctly, I had to provide them with Credit Card info to verify that I had indeed purchased the GA5 before they would give me the download link. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall the GA5 to see if that works. After the reformat, the trial version was gone from the programs file, so perhaps there is a problem in the current program itself.
