Greetings,
I currently have VS9 and am looking for a filter/effect to make video look grainy, like it was shot on film. Is there a filter/effect out there like that or would one be included in VS10+? Thanks for your time and assistance...

Hi Dehse,
Have you tried the Old Film filter in VS9? There are 4 presets to start with. Then you can customize each of them.
Then if you know a little programming, then you could try FX Bench, which is by board member Stephan Burger. He developed it and Burger's Transitions. Links to both can be found in the General Forum of the Tutorials Section..

Vidoman,
Tried the Old Film filter, but that doesn't give me what I am looking for. I tried the 4 presets for Old Film and tried to customize each filter but couldn't get what I wanted. I want the color of the video and the graininess of film. The filter is fine, with the grainy look of film, but no way that I could see to keep the color of the video. Any other ideas? Thanks for your time and assistance...

Edit: Also d/l'ed FXBench, but I didnt see anything for grainy filters or FX...

Well I guess it's time for the ol' workaround...
This will work in VS9, however it uses the overlay track. So if you have any images, or clips to be used in the overlay, you will have to render an intermediate file. Then use the intermediate file in the main track, ok?

- In the Main track apply the Old Film Filter.
- Now take and drag a copy of the video clip used in the main track into the overlay track.
- In the preview pane right click on the overlay video and choose Fit To Screen.
- Now go to the Attribute Panel, Chroma-Key, (don't use the Chroma-Key, just navigating to the Transparency settings..and set the Transparency to about 50%, for the overlay.

Works better with VS10 +, because you have 6 overlay tracks. So you just use up 1 to get the effect, and no intermediate rendering.
To get rid of the line, which is the Scratch in the customize settings for the effect, move the slider to the far left for the Scratch. Then right click on the Red dot (keyframe) at Frame 1, and select Copy. Then go to the last Keyframe, right-click and Paste.
