Help with VideoStudio 7

Post by fireemblem6 »

I am not exactly sure why , but from time to time I keep getting a C++ runtime error while I am trying to make a video. I am not exactly sure why I am getting this error , since it normally only happens while I am playing the video back *Which is needed to make sure it is in sync with the song*. I am not using transitions at all. I am not sure if any other info is needed , but please help me if you can. Also , I already have the patch and it did not fix the problem.

I have also Downloaded a trial to Video Editor 8 and I get the error there as well.

Hi and welcome to the forums..:)

I'm not sure why you would be getting this error.

In order to help you we need more information. Please read the following :
  1. Read This First Sticky
  2. Recommended Procedures
Also please complete your system information in your profile. This will help us in troubleshooting your problems now, and in the future this information will already be available, so you will not have to re-type it.

Out of curiosity, where did you manage to come up with a trial version of VideoStudio 8?

Nature of the problem - I keep getting A C++ Runtime error

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?) File types are Mpeg1 or mpeg2. I used 2 diffrent formats and got the same error. File sizes are 5 or less mb each.

What devices are involved and their mode of connection? DVD Express and capwiz. I use these programs to capture the files only.

Project Settings - I guess default since I do not edit them.

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD) - Out put *If i could ever finish it* Would be Mpeg1

PAL or NTSC - Ntsc

Error Codes (if any) - None , it just says there was an error. If i try to close the program out any other way then pressing ok , I get a videostudio encountered a problem. But if I press ok , the program closes out automatically.

Here is a pic of the error. <a href=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v140/ ... r.jpg>link to pic</a>

I didn't get a trial of video studio 8 , it was video editor 8 also made by Ulead.

Ok first I will say that I do not edit MPEG. The jury is still out on the DV vs MPEG editing debate. Since you can probably only capture to MPEG, then it is best to stick with it. If you're final goal is to be MPEG-2, then I would recommend capturing to MPEG-2. Keeping the properties the same throughout your workflow is the key to a successful production.

Secondly,

Shut down all that unnecessary stuff you have running. In your image, I saw what looked like more then one instance of instant messenger. Even though you have a robust system, the more background applications you are running while trying to edit video the more likely you are to have problems. Video editing is not like editing simple images, or working on a Word Document. It is very demanding on a computer, and needs all the resources you can give it.

Is your VS7 the full version, or a SE/DVD version? If it is the full version have you applied all of the updates, fixes for it?

You might try cleaning out your Temp Folders. If they get filled up it may cause problems while editing. You must be able to view Hidden Files and Folders. (Tools menu>Folder Options, View tab, scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders and check Show Hidden Files and Folders). Then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Temp. Yoiu can delete all the files in the Temp folder.

If you plan on doing alot of video editing, you may want to consider adding a second Hard drive. Having 2 or more HDDs puts less demand on a HDD, where it can be reading from one while writing to another. I know when I added my second HDD, it helped greatly. I have my Working folders for my editing apps set to the second HDD.
