No Sound on Some Clips

Post by PeterK2 »

I have had a look at the recommended procedure post and done a search on sound problems but could not find anything to help so here goes.

I had 4 .avi clips ready to burn to DVD that were created initially using VS9 and then finished off and rendered with VS10+. I burned them to DVD using VS10+. Two had sound and two did not. Rechecked the .avi's and sound was OK on all 4.

I still have VS9 so I went back to it and checked that the project settings and preferences matched. Everything matched as far as I could see. Used VS9 to burn the DVD and no problems with sound in any of the clips.

Rechecked the settings, chose one of the problem clips and burnt it again using VS10+. Again no sound.

I assume it has to be an incorrect setting with VS10 but cannot see it or understand why 2 out of 4 clips converted OK.

Any ideas?

Hi Peter,

What format of AVI are they? AVI is just a wrapper, that could contain Xvid, MPEG4, DivX, etc..

What are the audio properties of the 2 problem clips? Are all the audio settings the same?

They are all Panasonic DV CODEC - type 2. I know this board recommends type 1 but my camera produces type 2 so I stick to that.

The .avi sound seems to be identical, ie PCM, 48K, 16 bit, stereo. The DVD sound is Dolby Digital stereo.
