I guess it really isn't crucial, but am curious as to why I am able to capture from analog camcorder using Ulead 9 Wizard......which came with one of my peripherals.... but when I open Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE, it does not even see the device.
Does that mean I would probably have to completely uninstall the Ulead9 Wizard and Video Studio 9 (which will become inoperative shortly)? Might that be the reason the VS7 does not even see the device? (ADS Video Xpress)
I capture with Wizard 9, then open 7 for editing and burning. It works fine....but I am curious!!

The clue is Ulead VideoStudio 7 SE
SE - Simple Edition/Special Edition it is not the full version. These SE versions are often provided "free" by hardware manufacturers such as when you purchase a camcorder, TV card or digital camera.
Think of SE versions as a sort of never ending trial version.
Similar to the SE versions are VE versions often 'given away free' on the cover disc of a computer magazine.
They do the job but are limited in what they are capable of.

And one clarification please: did VS7SE *EVER* see the device, and stopped doing so when you installed VS9 trial? Or has it never seen the device??
I am also interested in why VS9 should become inoperative -- I said above the trial version, but I assumed as such because you used the term "inoperative". Was it only a trial which came with your peripheral, or yet another SE Version? If the latter, then it won"t become inoperative...

I can't find the info at this time, but as I recall, the package that came with the ADS device said the Wizard would continue to work but the VS 9 was good for only 30 days.
So I then installed the version 7.0 which I had from another device/peripheral but had never used before. And started using it for editing as it worked with no problems.....and knowing I wouldn't be able to use the version 9, why start with it when I would be going back to 7..
Just for curiosity sake, tried to capture with 7.0, but it did not recognize the capture device. But I can use it for my editing and burning. It appears to have about anything I will be needing.
So I use the Wizard 9 for capturing and 7 for editing and burning.
As I said originally, just curious as to why the version 7 cannot recognize the capture device. And if it would if I uninstalled the version 9. But why tamper with a successful operation. Right???
Virtual Dub recognizes the capture device......As does Windows Movie Maker.

As I already mentioned its probably because it's an SE version.
My advice - Listen to Heinz-Oz capture with different software and import that video into VS7 for editing.
Why struggle just to try and get an 'All in one' solution.
I don't ---- See this link

Heinz-oz and Steve really know their stuff, Tippy. Video Studio first and foremost is a good editing/Rendering tool. In addition, it will capture and burn, but I've used 4 different versions of Video Studio now and I've found that using the software provided by a dedicated capture device like the ADS DVD XPRESS DX2 (Cap Wiz) is a much better option than using the Video Studio capture software. As to why your capture works with VS9 SE and not VS7....easy, ADS tested their DX2 with a dedicated version of VS9 SE. Their device will only talk to that version of Video Sudio, and only the version of Video Studio that came bundled with your device will see your ADS capture device.
