Capture problem with VS 10+

Post by tractorboy »

Have created many DVDs successfully with VS10+. I have updated my processor from a 2.0GHz 400MHz FSB P4 to a 2.66GHz 533MHz FSB P4 and my memory from 512MByte PC2100 to 1GByte PC2700. MoBo is a Gigabyte GA8ST and spec says it supports these options. All other applications work OK.
But after a variable time (few minutes) of video capture via Firewire the PC restarts. This happens with movie maker and other video capture apps as well, - so not really a ULead problem - but since that's what I use for video capture, and the readers here seem to know what they're talking about, I thought I'd post here first!

Solved - kinda!

Well the good news is I can capture successfully. But I'd like some opinions.... The mobo bios has a page 'Frequency/Voltage Control' with 4 variables. I've always accepted the 'auto' defaults, but on the grounds that my last CPU and RAM worked, and the new doesn't, I tried playing with this, and opted to slow everything down. Hey Presto! - successful capture. But what are the optimum values?
The variables are 'CPU Clock' - it defaults to 133MHz and I've throttled back to 100MHz. (Remember its a 2.66GHz P4 with 533MHz FSB)
DRAM Clock (MHz) - default is 'Auto' but if I alter 'CPU Clock' the DRAM clock changes by itself
AGP Clock (MHz) - default is 'Auto'... I choose 50
PCI Clock (MHz) - default is 'Auto' ... I chose 25

Can anyone advise the best values - or are they determined by trial and error?
