Video Studio 10+ menu problems

Post by DngrsDan »

OK....I set up the chapters I want on the menu, set it to return to menu after playing that chapter. When I go to the "Preview" I only have one menu item showing, if I press the "1'" button on the control I now have all the chapters showing. If I chose one of those chapters it will continue through from that point rather than returning to the menu. To add to my consernation when I burned the DVD there was NO menu and the movie started playing immediately. Also when I tried to create the DVD from the project file it gave me a message saying it was an incorrect file format. (Yes, I did save it a project in VS10+)

I didn't seem to have all these problems with VS9, am I just doing something wrong?

HELP!

Steve,
thanks for your reply. I'm waiting for it to finish downloading (#$@% dial-up!) but what I've read so far doesn't seem to answer my problem. When I am creating the disk I go into "Customize" and pick the menu layout that shows 8 chapters, I click on "OK" and when I get back to my edit screen I have ONE chapter showing. The chapters I created do not show up in the drop down box ("D" on your tutorial) only "Main menu" and the clips name I'm working on. If I use the preview control ("E" in your tutorial) it runs with the one chapter menu. (Actually it's not a chapter but the whole clip)
If I chose the name of the clip in that drop down box ("D") it changes the layout screen and whhen I go into "Customize" the only option I have available to customize is the Navigation buttons..........Uhhhhh......waitaminnit.......go figure-it just started working...... I haven't done anything different than what I've been trying to do but now it shows the chapters!
One thing left though-it still will not stop and return to the menu after playing the chapter. It just keeps going from there. And I haven't tried to burn this to a DVD yet so I don't know, for sure, the menu and chapters will show up on the DVD. They didn't on the last attempt. When I play it in the preview it works (except for not returning to the menu part) but it worked the last time I tried burning it too.

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

I think you are confusing video with chapters.
If I have followed your post correctly you have one video and that one video comprises of 8 chapters.

You now have a main menu with one thumbnail which will bring up the chapter menu, you also have a 'play all' button.

If you click the one single thumbnail you are presented with your chapter menu. Click any chapter thumbnail and you will start watching that video from that chapter point and play will continue until you reach the end of the video.

You get different results when you have two or more videos (not chapters).
Lets say you have two videos and you have created chapter points for both videos.

You now get a main menu with two thumbnails and a 'play all button.'
Click a thumbnail and it will bring up that videos chapter menu just as the one above did. Again you can select a chapter thum, bnail to start playing the video from that point onwards.

What happens when you reach the end of the video is determined by
Is this the first or the second video of your set.
If its the second video then you will go back to the menu.
If its the first video of your set then you either go back to the menu or start playing your second video, dependant upon what you selected on the
Project Settings Sheet

If your video started playing before you saw a DVD Menu then you have ticked the use first clip as introductory video.

Or you have selected the play all clips first before Menu on the project settings sheet (above)

Steve,
Ooooooooh.....NOW I understand. I thought if I used a chapter point it would return to the menu after playing. I tried reading through the manual but couldn't find anything that explained it as you have done. Guess I've got some work cut out for me then separating my video file into individual segments now.

Thank you for your assistance, much appreciated.

Went and separated the video into separate clips, set up the menu with a play all and the chapter menu. Still will not end after playing the individual clip-goes on to the next. Yes, "Clip playback" is set to "Back to menu". ANOTHER problem I'm having is after setting up my menu when I go to preview it the default menu appears and runs, I have to click the 1 on the control to get it to show MY menu.

Starting to get frustrated.

Might have figgered one out...

Think I figured out the clip thingy....going to try it and see. But that "Preview" control insisting on showing the "Main Menu" display is driving me crazy (Yeah, yeah....I know...."short trip ain't it?") Any ideas on how to stop that?

Thanks,

DD

Think of it like this.
You place a DVD into a standalone DVD player and what's the first thing you see? The preview function works in the same manner.

Steve,
thanks for all your help. I truly do appreciate it.

The problem is that the preview control show a totally DIFFERENT menu than the one I created. I guess it's the default "Main menu". I have to click on the number 1 button on the control for it to display MY menu.

Is this the way it's supposed to work?

Thanks again.
