Have not been able to find an answer to this question. So hoping someone here can help me.
I am using VideoStudio 7 SE.
When playing a DVD I made in VS, there is always a hesitation of a couple seconds at the end of each chapter before continuing the movie (before starting the next chapter).
Is there a way to avoid this?
That is, other than buying an updated version.
Thanks.

Are you talking chapters or titles? In VideoStudio world chapters are markers within a single video file. Each seperate video file is called a title. So if you have two video files, or titles, that make up your DVD then, yes, there will be a slight delay from one to the other. If chapters are, indeed, what you are referring to then something might be wrong.

Just when I thought I was getting this program down pat......and now I find there is a problem in vocabulary....
First I capture in "uncompressed" AVI 5-10 minutes from my analog camcorder tapes.
Then after all my cuts and editing are complete, I save as a video file - NTSC - DVD.
Then I edit another avi file that I had captured and save as video file - NTSC - DVD....... Etc.
All are going to be placed on a single DVD. But I only capture 5-10 minutes segments as they are easier for me to work with at this stage of my understanding of VS.
Then I click on Share/Create Disk/DVD.....select the files to be included (all that I had saved as a video file to NTSC - DVD)......Type in Chapter names for each segment (file), give it a Title.............and then burn.
When I play on a DVD player, there is a hesitation between each segment that I had imported and given a Chapter name.
So am I using the wrong terms? Are each of these segments (files) really titles because they are different files? And if I made markers WITHIN each segment, those would be considered Chapters?
Really need to have the above explained.....as I obviously am using the wrong terms and want to be sure I know what I am talking about.
Truly appreciate your reponses.

For each video file you 'add' you get a thumbnail in the main menu.Tippytoes wrote:So am I using the wrong terms? Are each of these segments (files) really titles because they are different files? YES And if I made markers WITHIN each segment, those would be considered Chapters? YES

Each file/thunbnail can have chapters applied, creating a sub menu.
If you were to create one large video containing all your files, you would get one main menu.
You could apply chapters to this menu to allowing you to select with your remote control, the video would play through the chapters without a pause.

You got it.Are each of these segments (files) really titles because they are different files? And if I made markers WITHIN each segment, those would be considered Chapters?
That is OK to do it that way if it is easier to work with. But if you just want one main title (to avoid the hesitation), just put all those files you created in the timeline and render them to one big file. Then, in the Share>Create Disc step you insert that one file to create your DVD. You can then add chapters to get the sub-menus as Trevor mentioned.First I capture in "uncompressed" AVI 5-10 minutes from my analog camcorder tapes.
Then after all my cuts and editing are complete, I save as a video file - NTSC - DVD.

Thank you
Thanks, Trevor and BlackLab
The main reason I was separating and making all those separate files before burning was to cut down on the rendering time. I'm sure it was not really less time, but doing it in increments gave me the feeling it was less time.
So to eliminate the hesitations, I will place all files in one storyboard and render from there to one file. Then burn that one file. Right???
Before burning, I can make my chapter points? I assume there will be some windows that will open that will give some options...and then I should be able to do it. Guess I will have to go try that before I really understand.
To Steve J: I have downloaded and read almost all of your tutorial posts. But whenyou direct me to a huge one (as you just did), without pointing out exactly where I am to look, it is confusing. But I must thank you for all your posts. They have been a tremendous help in the past.
Again, my deepest appreciation.

Yes it's a bit long but I did create an Index so you could jump straight to the part you want.
In your case I think:
Authoring a DVD

Yes. You should see that when you go to Share>Create Disc. If you upgrade to V10 you can actually add your chapter points on the timeline as you edit (although I haven't tried that yet). Before burning, I can make my chapter points? I assume there will be some windows that will open that will give some options...and then I should be able to do it. Guess I will have to go try that before I really understand.
