Price reduction on Charlie Hills' book

Post by Devil »

Charlie has announced the following on the MUG forum. His book is the best thing since sliced bread. Strongly recommended.

We all know the MUG community is probably the best resource out there for
getting the most out of MediaStudio Pro (and related Ulead products). So
in an effort to make this "best resource" even better, I've decided to
drop prices on the MediaStudio Pro 8 book starting today.

You see, I feel it is in the best interest of .... of ... oh, blah, blah,
blah ... who am I kidding!? I'm not dropping prices to better the
community. I'm dropping prices to move inventory!

The book has been out four months now, and to be perfectly honest, not a
whole lot of people are buying it. This publishing endeavor has never been
about the money (trust me). And I'd much rather lose money on the deal and
get books in people's hands than to hold out for top dollar and sit on a
warehouse full of dust-gathering boxes. Because that's what I have now. A
LOT of boxes gathering dust.

So, starting today, Getting Results with MediaStudio Pro 8:

* Paperback (was $32.95) now $18.95
* Download (was $19.95) now $11.95
* CD-ROM (new format!) now $11.95

Special upgrade prices:

* Paperback for previous GRP/MSP owners (was $27.95) now $16.95
* Download for previous GRP/MPS owners (was $15.95) now $9.45

Prices for downloading first, then changing your mind:

* Paperback after downloading now $11.95
* CD-ROM after downloading now $1.95

Paperback and CD-ROM prices will have applicable sales taxes and shipping
added.

------------------------

Now the really good news. I know what a painful experience it is to buy
the full price product and THEN it goes on sale. If you've purchased
Getting Results with MediaStudio Pro 8 the last 30, 60, or more days [I'm
leaving it up to YOU to decide what's fair -- no arbitrary cutoff] then
send proof of purchase to rebate@getting-results.com and I'll refund the
difference.

The fine print:

I cannot issue partial refunds on credit cards. For US customers, I can
cut a paper check or refund money via PayPal. For non-US customers, PayPal
is the only option.

That's it.

Visit http://www.getting-results.com/msp/ today to take advantage of me.
:)

I have his book and believe that it's a bargain at twice the price, so I'm not going to ask for a refund. Thanks Charlie!

I always thought the price of the book was wrong.
I always thought (and have said elsewhere in this forum) that the price was too cheap!

And before Devil asks - no I'm not on commission.

I bought it 3 months ago as a download and I thought it was excellent value at the time. I certainly wouldn't ask for a refund (a bit long ago anyway). His after sales service is excellent as well. I asked for a .JPG image of the front cover of the book to print onto my backup CD-R and he sent me one within a day! It's a pity more people haven't bought it.

Perhaps it should be compulsory reading before asking questions here!!!

Amen, THoff!! I got my copy at the beginning of June and I'm totally enjoying it. I'm not asking for a refund either. He put a lot of work into it and deserves compensation for it.

At this price I really couldn't put off buying this for any longer, and eventually took the plunge, and went without groceries for a while (see an earlier thread with a post by me). Due to the discount, my lack of groceries lasted a much shorter time than at the original (though still reasonable) price. I have so far just read the preface, and think I already have my moneys worth!

Greg

This book is highly recommended.

I'm not on commission either.

Even if you live outside the US and the exchange rate works against you, plus the cost of shipping, it's still a great deal and worth every cent. The cd that comes with the book has many projects that make it simple. I've been using MSP since v6 and found this book to be fantastic.

If you are outside the US please note that the download version still has all of the projects. You only miss out on a printed version.

I just got this book based upon recommendations from this forum. It is a MUST HAVE for anyone using MSP.

I have been using MSP for multiple projects for 2 years. I thought I knew the program pretty well - not an advanced user by any means - but not a beginner either.

I'm only about 1/4 way through the book and I have already learned so much. It would have been a bargain at twice the price.

I can also vouch for the quality and usefulness of this book.

I bought the downloaded version and it taught me a lot. To be honest, I think MSP8 is the sort of software that needs a book like this - there's a lot of little tidbits you never knew but should have. There's also shortcuts; ways of doing things; and explanations about getting around things that aren't quite right in the software.

My endorsment of the book is right on the cover .... but of course you can't SEE that if you haven't bought it yet :p .... so .....

THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY A MUST READ for ANY MSP user at ANY level.
Period.

Beyond just "how to use feature XYZ", Charlie includes chapters and sections that clearly explain mainy of the core technologies used in digital video in general. Understanding these concepts can dramatically enhance the quality of your videos ... before you even shoot them!

Charlie's work on this really goes above and beyond what one might expect from a single-application focused text.

If you use MSP, you are doing yourself a disservice to not take advantage of this bargain.

As a disclaimer note ....
I gain absolutely NOTHING by endorsing the book.
The closest thing to a kickback is the feeling that I've done a good thing for any reader that chooses to buy the book for themselves after reading my post.

Good luck.
Have fun!

I took the plunge and ordered it (the download version) a few days ago. I'm slowly working through it, and am almost through the preliminary chapters now. The "good stuff" is still ahead from what I can see by skimming through the .pdf file.

Even though I think of myself as past the beginner's stage, I still have a lot to learn and have learned something on almost every page of this book. I'm anxious to get into it further (and then into some more editing projects) as soon as I get a little more time...

It's got my recommendation as well (for whatever that's worth...)
