I wouldn't pay too much attention to that, many shops employ sales staff that don't know much about what they are selling.url wrote:...........I have to wait a week to get my firewire PCMCIA card as they are not in stores here in Canada. I basically got laughed at when I asked about one; the stores said they are of days gone past..........

True. That's why I do my homework before I buy something in the computer store.sjj1805 wrote:I wouldn't pay too much attention to that, many shops employ sales staff that don't know much about what they are selling.

This may sound silly, but what is the shielding for the firewire for???
The Generic Computer store sells a 3 foot cable 6 to 4 @$6; however I did not ask them about the shielding.
Future Shop, the big box store sells 6 feet for $30 and again I did not ask them about the shielding aspect as I did not know about it at the time.
The one issue that I am majorly unclear about is the addition of music. In the days of yore when I used my Sony super 8's and Hi 8's and my editor this was always an issue, trying to get the music insync with the clip that I wanted and I would spend hrs just to do a 45 minute video. Also the problem was trying to get the subject that i was copying onto vhs in a proper pose i.e. not with a spoon stuck in the mouth.
I imagine that this new technology will be easier to accomplish this???
I guess that is what I am really getting at when I say user friendly.
I imagine that I will have to use CD music from my computer, before I used to use music from my cassettes which I could control a lot easier, then again there probably is a fader feature on the edit software to use when one is adding music?
I will have to sit down and go over the programs and see what they can do, Video 10 may be the route I choose after I practice with it once I feel comforatable with my corder and get out and take some family activities.
The corder is simply not one that I would really choose, it is so small and somewhat heavy for the hand.
Not like the older models that were more balanced and a little larger and I used a tripod type attachment on the bottom that fit over my shoulder and I found it made it much easier to use.
I have been trying it around the house here and think that I may get a lightweight mono pod as the tightness of the wrist grip is not comfortable and it simply does not fit the hand nicely.
I guess these corders are made for the point and shoot traveller.
If I didn't need one this year, I would hold off one more year.
The other thing that I really am not a fan about is fumbling around with the toggle switch, necessary to use to get to the next menu item.
But the other cameras lik Sony were so pricey for such a basic camera and some had no mic inputs, then there was canon, however criticism there was its operation in low lux conditions so I steered away from that one.
Does any one know of a good corder accessory site as I have been googling and have not come across too much.
Again thankyou for your interest and support with my queiries.
Best Regards.
