I have that icon on the very bottom of the screen and I can burn from an image there but it does not compress the image to fit on a disc. I have a Copy/Fit on my opening screen. The manual that came with the suite of programs does not show that program. It just shows a Copy program but I managed to find info on it (I believe) on the Ulead website.
I have 8 icons. They are probably the same as yours with the exception that I have Copy/Fit instead of just Copy.
I managed to get the program to run (until it failed!) by doing a direct DVD to DVD copy. It showed a compression rate and a bar that showed that it was compressing the movie just enough to completely fill the disc I was trying to write to. Nice feature.... if it worked.
It was working and got up to over 70% complete and then it zipped up to 100% and didn't write anything. I do have a decryptor, but I don't know how that works. I would imagine that it would only work if I run it on a image on my hard drive.
I have never seen DiscDup, BurnStar, or Launcher and I did not see mention of any of them in the PDF manuals that I have looked at.
One of the problems with being a PC idiot like myself is that I don't understand what the difference between files and an image is. The Copy/Fit program writes an image. I have the choice of an .ixb or .iso image. That's my only choice except for deciding where to put it.
So it creates the image. Now I have to figure out how to burn that to disc. But that brings me back to my original problem. When I enter a source for burning the disk, the Ulead browser window does not find those image files nor does it find any files that I could burn. It doesn't find files or images. It just shows folders in My Documents but I cannot open them to see the files inside them nor can I use he folder itself as a source.
I guess I also don't understand what a DVD folder is. Maybe that is the key to my problem.
I wasn't able to find a file in Programs/Ulead called launcher.
Ulead does launch O.K., however (obviously). The main screen says "Digital Media Center" across the top. And, as I said, I actually got the Copy/Size program to run and it sized things to fit the new disk, but the program just failed - maybe due to protection. But I was only able to get it to run even that much with a disc to disc copy (attempt).
I feel like a real dummy right now! lol
I really appreciate your help.
Tom
Cannot navigate to image/files for burning.
I do have that screen and I tried it but that Copy Disc program does no compression and it just fails because there isn't enough space on the "to" disc.
When I open up Ulead, what you have that says "Copy" on the right side of your screen says Copy/Fit on mine. I think our other seven utilities are the same. I also have the icons on the bottom I found info on Copy/Edit somewhere (probably the Ulead site because the PDF manual that came with the software only shows a Copy program) and it did say that Copy/Fit compresses the video you are copying to fit onto a single disk. In fact, as I mentioned, when I tried to do a direct disc-to-disc copy, it came up with the screen that showed the compression rate, etc. It just failed - possibly because my decryptor won't work (???) unless I put the movie on my PC and then burn it from there but I'm just guessing about that because I don't know how that works.
Here's what I have on my opening screen:
Create Video/Slide Show
Create Data/Music Disc
Advanced Video Editing
Organize Media Files
Direct to Disc
Edit Disc
Copy/Fit Disc
Backup Files (This is Nova Backup)
Then, on the bottom, I have four icons as follows:
Info Menu
Erase Disc
Burn From Disc Image (but does no compression like Copy/Fit above)
DVD Player
I guess I am just too ignorant about these things. Apparently the Copy/Fit program cannot burn an image (???). But it only allows me to create an image (.ixb or .iso). I can't imagine what good the Copy/Fit program would be if it can create an image but do nothing with it after that.

Hi,
I would think that the image file you have on the harddisk is the
compressed image already.
Maybe the program works best if you create the image in the
Copy/Fit screen and burn the image using the icon on the bottom
of the screen that says burn image (3rd from left on mine).
Many of the compression program give a choice to burn the cd/dvd or
write an image. The image should be the compressed format of the
cd/dvd. I think you may be able to burn that image.
Definitely different software, possibly. In my version it does say FIT
but in a different place. Ulead usually doesn't re-compress stuff but
if it's on your machine they certainly are doing something.
I would try using the icon on the bottom of the screen to burn the
image file you created previously to cd/dvd, or is it to large.

This is getting frustrating. (I just got a response from Ulead and their answer had absolutely nothing to do with my question at all. It's as if they just randomly picked a reply from a hat and sent it to me. It's obvious that they never even read my question.)
No, the image on the hard disk is NOT compressed. It is the full uncompressed image of the original DVD. (In my particular case, the image is about 7.5 GIG). The compression takes place when the Copy/Disc job is run (as the name implies.) As I mentioned in previous posts, you can actually seeCopy/Fit t do the compression when you run the Copy/Disc program but the job only runs when I do a direct disc to disc copy. Unfortunately, the job fails when I do it that way. I suspect that it is because the decryptor possibly only works when it is written to my hard disk before writing it to a new DVD.
Also, as I have said before, the Burn Image job (icon at bottom of page) does NOT compress the image. It fails before it even starts with an error message saying that the image is too large to burn to the new disk. I know what that program is for but it does NOT do compression.
In other words, the Copy/Fit is copying the entire uncompressed image to my hard drive with no problem. But when you try to do the second part of the process (and this is exactly how it is explained in the online manual), you can't navigate to the image file to set it as the source for he burn.
Just think of the name of the program..... Copy/Fit. It says what it is supposed to do. It is supposed to copy and fit a DVD. It WILL copy the image to my hard drive but I cannot find out how to then burn it to the disk using the program's compression.
Like I said, when you run Copy/Fit in a direct disc to disc copy, a screen pops up showing you exactly how much compression is being used to fit the original on the new disc.
Just think of the name of the program..... Copy/Fit. It says exactly what it is supposed to do. I just can't get it to do it.
Here is the description of what Copy/Fit is supposed to do. This is the little explanation that pops up when you pass your mouse pointer over the Copy/Fit program Icon:
"Make a disc copy from an existing disc or a DVD Video folder. You can also reduce your video size to fit one DVD."

I'm curious why my version has the words FIT when selecting the size
of the project. Going to play around with that tonight.
If you are tring to compresss a video from dvd to vcd/svcd or a large-dvd
that won't fit onto a single-layered dvd there are many programs on
the net that do that. Some are freeware.
I've renamed the Burn.Now progrm to Burn.Never

Yeah, I may just have to get another program. My Copy/Fit is supposed to do it. In fact, it even tells you that it is compressing the image to fit on a single disk but it only does that when you do a straight DVD to DVD copy. I have little doubt that it will work but I just don't know how to make it work. It handles the first part fine.... it creates the image. But you cannot navigate to the image (or even just a file, for that matter) with the Ulead navigation window when it askes you for the source to use for the burn.
The online manual says that you....
1) Load a DVD that you want to copy into your drive.
2) Run Copy/Fit specifiying what the source (the DVD to be copied is) and what the destination is. If you want to put it on your PC for later burning, it only allows you to copy it to your PC as a image in either .ie or .iso format.
The manual even explains why one would want to do that instead of a direct DVD to DVD copy. There a two reasons that they give. One is that you only have one DVD drive so you need to copy it to your PC and then burn it in two steps. The other is that you just want to burn the copy at a later time. I had it copy to my PC because, when I first tried it, I only had one DVD drive. It created the image with no problem. The image is not compressed. The compression part only comes in when you go to burn the new DVD. The image size is the same size as the original DVD (not compressed.) I had it put the image in My Videos. It is there. I can see it when browsing with Windows.
Then I installed a DVD-R that I had sitting around. I can now use Copy/Fit to do a direct DVD to DVD copy (nothing on my PC) but it fails. It shows you the compression rate it is using to fit it on the new DVD, but then it simply fails about half way through the job. It never gets to actually burning the new DVD.
I am pretty fed up with Ulead about now. The tech response to my quesiton made me think that they just gave me a random, canned response. It had almost nothing to do with my question and it did not answer my question.
