Cannot navigate to image/files for burning.
Cannot navigate to image/files for burning.
I cannot navigate to files to be used as the source when trying to burn a CD. The navigator in Ulead does not show the files. The images/files are there.... I can navigate to them with Windows, but the Ulead navigator does not show them.
I was able to copy an DVD to an image file with no problem. The .ix image file is there and I can navigate to it with Windows, but when I try to navigate to it to set it as the source for burning using the CopyFit utility, it does not show up. The Ulead navigator will only show the folder that it is in but it will not allow me to open the folder or even to use the folder itself as a source. In addition, the navigator will not bring me to ANY type of file for burning (.mp3, jpg, etc.). It's as if the Ulead navigator doesn't see the files/images.
The only way I have been able to burn a DVD with this Ulead suite is with the "Create Video/Slideshow" utility (as a project), but, even with that utility, I cannot import an .ix image file. Again, when I try to navigate to it, it doesn't show up. I wouldn't want to burn the image that way anyway (as a project with menus) but I just tried it as an experiment.
Thanks for any help in advance.

The file that I was trying to burn is an .ixb file that was created by Ulead. But no matter what type of file I try to burn, it won't navigate to it. In other words, the navigator in the Ulead burner doesn't recognize ANY type of file so I cannot burn anything.
However, I can burn projects in the Video/Slideshow utility but that's not what I need to do.

Burn from image
In DMF 3.0 Disc Creator, you hit that little icon along the bottom that's before the printer icon -- burn from image. That doesn't let you burn the ixb image?
George
George,
That icon did allow me to navigate to the .ixb image. Thank you very much. But the file is too big (a DVD movie I am using as a test). Also, it still doesn't allow me to burn other file types by using that icon but I was able to open my .ixb image.
Do you know why I cannot navigate to the .ixb image (or any file, for that matter) in the copy/fit program? If it worked, I think that would compress the image to fit on the disc. When I run it from the icon as you mentioned, it doesn't compress, apparently.
In short, do you know why I am not able to navigate to ANY files from the Copy/Fit program to burn to DVD?
BTW, I unistalled the program and reinstalled it. No difference.

copy/fit program?
What is the copy/fit program? is that something outside of Ulead? (like DVD Shrink or something like that)??? If so, then when you make an image, select the *.iso version -- I think those shrink programs will work with the *.iso image (not the *.ixb -- which is a Ulead extenstion).ZoneIII wrote:In short, do you know why I am not able to navigate to ANY files from the Copy/Fit program to burn to DVD?

The Copy/Fit program is a Ulead product. It came with a suite of programs with my Pioneer DVD burner. The suite is called Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.5 Suite Deluxe. The suite includes the following programs:
Create Data/Music Disc
Advanced Video Editing
Organize Media Files
Direct To Disc (copies from digital devices - digital cameras etc.)
Edit Disc (Add more date or edit R/W discs)
Copy/Fit Disc (This is the program that reads in a DVD and creates an image. Then it is supposed to write that image to a DVD. It has two boxes... one for setting the source and one for setting the destination. If the source or destination is a file or image, a navigation box comes up. This is where I cannot navigate to my image or even files of any type that I might want to burn onto DVD).
Backup Files
The package also came with a picture editor/viewer but that is a separate program.

New to me...
Hi,
That explains it -- I don't have the 3.5 Suite that comes bundled with some burners.
Is it supposed to "shrink" files (i.e. "fit" to disc)? I didn't know Ulead even made a "shrinking" software.
Sorry for my confusion, I hope someone who has that package can explain how it works...

George,
Thanks much.
I know that Ulead has many products and bundles them up differntly. In fact, I am confused by all the products that they offer. I notice, for example, that my version does not have some features that are described in the manual. For example, I do not have the label making program that are in some versions.
I wrote to Ulead techical support but I have not received a reply yet. I suspect that the fix is something simple - a setting or something, but I don't see many settings to choose from at all in the program.
Thanks much.

That option is for copying dvd's.
It isn't looking for a file it's looking for a dvd folder.
You can burn a dvd-video folder to dvd or
create a iso file from a dvd.
You can also put a -VR disk in and produce a dvd-r no menu dvd
with that program.
Located in the MF3 installation directory under "Program Files" are the
instructions on how to use MF3. There are a few .pdf files.
They are very helpful.

Actually, you are not correct. You may have a different version than I do. My Copy/Fit utilty is for copying DVDs but it will also copy a DVD to an image from which another DVD can be burned.... Well, that's what it is supposed to do. The reason for that is that some people do not have two DVD drives so they have to first load an image onto their PC and then they burn a new DVD from the image. My problem is that I cannot navigate to the image to burn it.
The manual explains it just as I said above. I re-read it and, in fact, it even has a box to check to make your source OR destination an image.

Maddrunner.... After re-reading your reply, I realized that I may not understand what you are saying. But I do know that the Copy/Fit program should do what I am trying to do because I read the manual twice - line for line and very carefully. As I said, it has an option dropdown to navigate to an image for either the source or destination. The manual says that if you want to copy an image to your PC for later burning, you first run the Copy/Size program using the DVD you want to copy as the source and the image is written on your PC. Then, after you have that image, you are supposed to be able to set the .ixb or .iso image as the source and the DVD burner as the destination. It doesn't work for me. That's the problem as described in my first post.
I just searched for the MF3 pdf files that you mention but I cannot find them anywhere. I am wondering if we have different versions of the program. We found out that another gentleman that responded to my question had different features in his version and my version is different than the one described in the manual that came with it!
Hopefully, Ulead tech support will get back with me.

Hi,
Maybe this information will help:
On my opening screen if I want to burn an image file I would click
on the ICON at the very bottom of the screen. It's the 3rd Icon
from the left side right next to the printer icon.
When I click on that I can navigate to either a iso, ixa or ixb image file.
My opening screen doesn't say Copy/Fit .
On my screen there is a total of 8 icons in the main area and
4 icons on the bottom.
The copy icon is on the right side between the "Edit Disk" and "Dvd Player"
Is this the Ulead Burn-now feature? Sure sounds like a different interface
module.
I think you are executing a different interface module. There are 3
modules using Burn-now
DiscDup.exe
BurnStar.exe
Launcher.exe
The Launcher.exe is the main opening screen that is the default to run
MF3.
IF you can find DiscDup.exe there are 2 BUTTONs to select. 1 is to burn
from a dvd folder and the other button is to browse for an image file.
I would try to search under "Program Files" and look for the program
called launcher.exe
Hope this helps,

Hi,
The only screen I can find that has any reference to "Fit DVD" is
by clicking on the icon on the bottom which is how you set the
"Working Folder".
This is using the Ulead program BurnStar.exe which is part of the
Burn.now program.
If you are looking at a screen with 4 icons on the left from top to bottom
click on the "Copy Disk" Icon (3rd down).
The top right of screen will say "Source" with 2 Buttons. The 2 buttons say
Disc/Folder and Disc Image File. Click the button for Disk Image File
and browse by clicking on the folder icon directly to the right.
Hope this helps,
