Smart Package Problem

Post by jday »

First, let me say I've used Smart Package many times so I'm fairly familiar with it. However, I'm having a lot of difficulty with a particular project and smart package. I package the project on my laptop computer (which I've done many times) and then copy the smart package to my desktop and open it up. It opens up fine and I can scrub through the timeline and everything is there where it should be. But, when I go to preview the project, it simply jumps from the first frame to the last frame and will not play the project (it's an 8 minute project).

This is really frustrating because it's obvious all the clips are there, it just won't preview. I am using "instant play" which I normally do. If I take off "instant play" the little window will open up and it will start rendering the project and then get to a point and crash. Just a reminder, this same project plays fine on the original computer (the one I used smart package on).

Again, other projects (even longer, more complicated ones) work fine with smart package and being brought into this computer.

Sounds like a corrupted file to me. Somehow, things may have been affected adversely during the copy process from Laptop to PC. How did you transfer the files?

Thanks for the reply. I've tried a couple of different ways with the same results (even redid the Smart Package). First, I output it to an external hard drive which I then connected to the new computer. The second method I tried was to save the Smart Package on the old computer and then transfer it via wireless LAN. Not being able to get it to work, I decided to try something different, which did get the entire project transferred.

I used the Smart Compositor Designer and made an .exe file of the project (SC Template). I ran the .exe file on the new computer and although it didn't put a valid SC template in the SC module (I knew this problem from other posts in the forum), it did put a .dvp file and all the associated files together in a folder. I clicked on this dvp file and the program opened just fine.
