Capturing DVD in VS10 Trial version

Post by pusoccercol »

I have downloaded and installed the VideoStudio10 Trial version. I am having problems capturing DVD (.vob format). Each time I try to import from the DVD, I select the Video_TS folder and hit "import" on the Import DVD window, and then it gets about 10% down and the following error occurs:

"Cannot open files. Report ID: 0x80040836(2102)"

The DVDs that I have were burned from another DVD. I have been able to import video (.wmv) files just fine, but for some reason I can't import dvd files.

I am very new to this program (trying to figure out whether or not it is exactly what I want). Is there some trick to importing dvds to VS10? I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Try to copy the dvd to your HDD... then attempt to import.

FYI, if that is a commercial DVD with CSS encryption or some other form of copy protection, you're not going to have much luck. Videostudio was never meant to do that.

I'm not saying that's what you are doing, but just wanted to mention it.

Just to rule out another possibility, when you select 'Import' and the DVD structure appears on screen, do you check the little boxes that appear to the left of each 'chapter' of the disc that you want, and then hit 'Import'? (This is what you are supposed to do.)

I tried to copy the dvd to my harddrive, then import it...and I got the same error again. I have been checking the boxes next to the chapter (the import box is not selectable until you do so). There is only one chapter on the dvd...it shows up as "chapter 0".

I don't think there is any commercial coding/encryption on my dvds...they are from a project I did through NASA as an undergrad, and were given to each team that participated to use for outreach presentations.

Are there any other tricks to importing from a dvd? Could this problem be due to using only the trial version?

If you cannot simply drag the contents of the DVD across to your hard drive in Windows Explorer then this is not a VideoStudio problem. VS uses windows to navigate to the DVD.
Try updating the firmware of the DVD reader.

With the DVD on the hard disk, have you tried simply renaming the VOB files with an .mpg extension? That sometimes works.

If I just save my .vob files as .mpg files, they don't contain all the data (the clips are 59 seconds long instead of a half hour...I don't know why that would happen, but it does). I have finally been able to get the .vob clips into my library (I insert a video rather than a dvd), but when I try to preview the clip, it freezes at 59 seconds in. Is there a reason why the clip would freeze like that?
