Chapter Menus Question

Post by me »

Using DVDMFDC 4, Win XP SP2.

Example--a DVD with two titles, and each title has several chapters. I create both a title menu and a chapter menu.

The way it now looks--start the DVD, you see the title menu. WHen you click on one of the two titles, you see the chapter menu for that title.

That is not how I would like it. Most viewers would not use the chapter menu, and when they click on the title, would like for that title to start playing. I would prefer that clicking on the title from the title menu just start playing the video, but I would like the chapter menu to be accessible for those who would like to access it. In fact, that is the case with most commercial DVDs. Many have some sort of chapter menu, but most viewers don't use it.

Is that possible--to have a chapter menu, accessible via menu key on remote, but it does not automatically present itself on opening the title. (Opening the title just starts playing the whole title.)

Or--alternatively, you open the title you want from the title menu, and see a menu with two choices. One choice just says "Play Movie", and plays the whole title from the beginning. The second choice says "Chapter Menu", or "Scenes", and will bring you to the chapter menu. In fact, this is how many commercial DVDS are, with the choice of "Play Movie" and "Special Features", and the chapter menu is one of the latter.

Is that possible to do with DVDMF4?

If not, is it possible to do with DVDMF5? DVD Workshop?

I don't think MF is "Smart" enough for that though you may be able to find a work around.

If I wanted to do what you want, I would check out DVD WorkShop. Not sure if it can do but the understanding is that DVD WS is more elaborate in the menu creation department than MF.

I don't think I quite understand your reply.

If I have two titles on a DVD, the title menu is essential, so the viewer can choose between the two. I certainly would not want to uncheck "Create Title Menu", and only have a chapter menu.

It is the chapter menu that is non-ssential. I created one, and would like it available for viewers who want to find a particular place, but would rather it didn't pop up automatically on opening the title. That is what I was asking about.

Is it possible to do in DVDMF5?

If not possible in DVDMF (5 either), I certainly hope Ulead considers changing that.

The PLAY arrow on the Title Menu Screen will play the video directly so
maybe drag that close to the Thumbnail and name the thumbnail as chapters.

So you can play the video directly from the main title screen by clicking on the Play button (Not on the Thumbnail)

A different method would be usder the Options icon or maybe it's the advanced icon UnCheck "Create Title Menu". Then all the chapters show up on the menu screen.
You could name the first chapter Main Movie because that's what it is anyway.
Then re-arrange the other thumbnails away from the first chapter.

I'm pretty sure that the first item to have focus on the menu when it's played is the PLAY arrow. So technically all one has to do with the controller to see the movie start is hit the PLAY button on the remote or select key.

Like Heinz-Oz has already said above. You need DVD Workshop 2.
You can create whatever yyou want from a blank screen complete with playlists. You can have buttons for an audio/subtitle selection menu and you can do all the things done by a commercial DVD.
