Problems Burning to DVD
I have created a number of video projects in ULead 6.0, but have never been able to burn them to a DVD. When I finish the project and go thru the "Create DVD" options, everything seems to work and it begins loading the project, etc. but it eventually locks up and gives me an error message: "Generic error....." and I have to try again. My burner seems to work fine, as I have been able to burn a number of CD's and other things with it. Is there some sort of setting or patch that I need to look at for the project to work burning onto a DVD? Has anyone else had this "generic error" message?

If you have not already done so - then first download and install the CD/DVD Burning Engine patch which you can get from here :-

I suspect you are going straight from the project in the timeline to 'Share > Create Disc'. This more often than not creates problems. It is better to first go 'Share > Create Video File > DVD', and this will produce a DVD-compatible MPEG-2 file. Once that is done, you can go 'Share > Create Disc. and insert the MPEG-2 when prompted by the burning module. Make sure you also check the box 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' in the little icon with the cog wheel in VS 8 (or blue tick in VS 7) in the bottom left of the burning module screen. Good luck!

Patches
I have downloaded the patches that were mentioned, and tried again and ALMOST got it to work, but.....It had been shutting down on Step #3 of 6, but I got all the way to step 6 this time before I got a ULead error message: "error code 80040154". Obviously I'm closer than I was before, but not quite there. Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help.

pcork,
is the error message you're getting a "Ulead" message or a "Microsoft" error messsage. Reason I ask is the error number you have identified is a MS video codec error message usually reserved for Windows MediaPlayer. I would make sure that you have the latest DirectX which I believe is DirectX9.0c. A requirement of VS is the latest DirectX9.
You can get it from MS at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/direct ... efault.asp
Give it a try and let me know. good luck

Actually, 0x80040154 is a generic error, REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG. It indicates that a required COM object class is not registered, or that something in the registry got corrupted.
If the module that implements the class can be identified, you can repair the damage by running REGSVR32 filename.dll from a command prompt. Sometimes I use for %1 in (*.dll) do REGSVR32 %1 as a brute-force solution, but this assumes that you at least know the directory that the DLL lives in.

Re: Patches
Hi, have you successfully resolved the problem? I'm facing exactly the same issue. I tried burning to TDK DVD-RW successfully. But now got this error msg using Imation DVD-RW and DVD+RW. Not sure is it after installing the 16X DVD Burning Pack. I'm using 16X NEC-ND-3450A writer.pcork wrote:I have downloaded the patches that were mentioned, and tried again and ALMOST got it to work, but.....It had been shutting down on Step #3 of 6, but I got all the way to step 6 this time before I got a ULead error message: "error code 80040154". VS6 error 80040154
I had exactly the same problem (error 80040154 at the step 6 when burning DVD using Ulead drive). When I use other drive to burn on CD writer, there is no problem. I am running VS 6 under Windows XP home edition. It used to work perfectly well. The problem seems came after Windows Service Pack 2 installation. I even have tried to re-install everything, starting from formatting hard drive but the problem still exists.
I have tried to install all the patches available on ulead.com and have DirectX 9.0installed.
Anybody has solution? Thanks.

I had the same experience. I acquired VS6 SE bundled with a Leadtek capture card and had been using it to edit and burn successfully for some months. Eventually I decided to download and install all updates from the Ulead site. This was a bad move because as soon as I'd installed these the "80040154" error appeared (I'm using XP SP2 as well). I found that this error only appeared if I elected to burn straight to DVD -- creating a DVD file set or an ISO image continued to work fine.
Anyway, the only solution for me was to uninstall and re-instal VS6. If you backed up the "DVD" folder (as recommended in the update guidance) in the path:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\DVD
— deleting the new folder and substituting the old backup should restore normal operation.
