I also had written permission from the person who recorded it to use it. They also sent this written permission to Lucasfilms and Lucasfilms wouldn't touch it. They made me replace the soundtrack with in-game music. So, it's definitely a complicated subject.

I will be checking out the SmartSound stuff.

Now that copyright is the same in Aust as it is in USA the 70 years refers to the first published date and then also the Author's date of death.

If the author is still alive then it's not public domain yet.

This is how I understand it.
