I'm sorry that this is a dumb question - I am using the trial VideoStudio and this doesn't seem to come with the help files, so I'm struggling with some very basic functionality.
I recorded a film in Media Center Edition (MCE) and I want to 'top and tail' the film and cut out the ads. I just found it hard work understanding the best way to cut out the ads and wondered if there was a recommended way?
The way I ended up doing it was this. It had three sections, with ads between, so I put three copies of the film in the time line and then I marked the start and end I wanted in each of the three copies. I then copied that out to a single MPG file and then burned to a DVD. The final result was very good, but it dodn't feel like 'best practice'.
It wasn't really the way I expected it to work. I thought I'd just have one copy of the film and maybe mark the bits I wanted and all the rest would be removed. Or I'd mark the beginning and end of the ads and 'cut' them out. But try as I might, I couldn't find a way to make them work.
Any advice to a newbie?

Hi Eric
Use the scissors to cut the video.
Place the video in the timeline, position the curser at the beginning of the ads and cut, repeat for the end, highlight the ad’ clip and delete.
As an alternative using the split by scene option may identify the ads.
But you will have to give it a go. It is a little time consuming during the scan and a manual approach may be as easy??????????
