Split screen

Post by girly »

Hi

Is it possible to have a 2 or better 3 way split screen?? I would like to do a 'Dallas' effect at the beginning of a movie and show people's faces with their names if possible - can you put text on an overlay?? Or can you do more than one overlay at a time on a background??

Any help appreciated.

Hi Girly

What version of VS are you using.

Using VS 10 you have multiple overlay tracks.
You can now use a different track for each clip.

Using the multiple text option to insert your titles.

If you are not using VS 10, then each video clip will have to be rendered.
Using the resulting clip to add another overlay and title.

Hi Trevor

Thanks for reply. I use VS10. Please can you explain simply how I use the multiple overlay track etc and how I get the split screen effect. I've never done it before.

Hi

1 / Change the view to Timeline View (second icon from left under)

2 / Select Overlay Track Manager (second icon from right)
Select tracks 2 and 3
You now have three overlay tracks

3 / Place a video or image clip in the first overlay track. The clip will view as smaller size, but you can resize or distort the image.
Drag the clip in the preview window to reposition.
Keep the main content inside the safe area indicated by the square line.

4 / Add another clip to the next overlay track.

A selected clip can be identified by the yellow squares these are used to distort resize the clip.

Right click a clip in the preview screen for other positioning and size options.

5 / Add a title to the timeline

Hi

I just figured it out by playing around, but one question, how do I get the overlays to be static and not fly off. I can get them to fly on but want them to stay there so I have 3 pictures together. DO you understand what I mean??

Thanks

Hi

Under the Overlay Attributes Tab:-

There are two boxes for Direction and Style, Enter and Exit, the centre button is the Static option.

Below are fade-in rotate options.

Float your mouse over the buttons for a tool tip
