16:9 menus problem.

Post by gibman »

Hi!

I recently downloaded the trial vers. of DVD workshop 2.
I knew about it being unable to create 16:9 menus, but again read about the
tricks with ifoedit and dvdpatcher.

I followed the advice about how to create the 16:9 menus.

use DVDpatcher to patch the video_ts.vob file (the one containing the menu)
to 16:9 (entire file).
I also used ifoedit / pcgedit to edit the menu related IFO files from 4:3 to 16:9.

Now when I burn a DVD it works fine in powerDVD etc.
When I try it in my standalone DVD player I get the following trouble.

The menu selection marker is rendered too low in relation to the object in focus.
The menu are 16:9 alright - so this part works.
But it is quite useless. When I move the selection to my "play all" button, it is highlighted with "red". Red is okay, since this is the highlight color I chose in the editor. But the "red" highlight button is rendered just below the "play all" button frame.

It seems like the hightlight buttons behaves like they were still in 4:3 while the rest is in 16:9.

I have 2 different DVD players and both excibit the same behaviour.

Obviously everything is ok if I use the menus in 4:3 without doing any hacking with those above mentioned tools.

I had similar effects on some players when I not used dvdpatcher.
Please try the following:
Verify/adjust the location of the highlight frames with pgcedit menu editor.
Verify/adjust them with DVDSubEdit.
I hope this helps.
