While working on a project using cross-fade transitions between clips I was attempting to use the audio panel in MSP 8 to adjust the audio levels on one track to a lower level. However, the final results of applying the new audio levels always leaves the cross-faded transitions with an unorthodox transition that does not represent a cross-faded audio track at all.
My audio clips usually kept resulting with the audio starting at the correct "adjusted" level with the level increasing to 100% of the original level by the end of the clip and then spiking back down during the "cross-fade" transition to the level it should have been across the entire clip. Each clip adjusted with the audio panel across the project resulted with this same outcome.
I abandoned trying to use the audio panel to adjust audio on my project as a result of this behavior. I then attempted to manually apply the "Amplify" audio filter to each individual clip in order to achieve the volume I was looking for. This actually worked perfectly well in general with exception to the tedium of applying a filter to each individual clip. The only problem was that now the audio track resulted in an annoying, noticeable "Click" at the beginning and end of each cross-fade transition.
After finding no way to avoid the clicking noise during the cross-fade, I resorted to trying to adjust the audio level on each individual clip from within the timeline. This is even much more tedious. There is no means to adjust the entire clip. One can only adjust each control point. I like the versatility but would like to be able to adjust the clip as a whole. The problem I have experienced with this method is that one accidental mouse click on the clip instead of the control point results in every clip previously adjusted to restore the audio levels at the end of each clip to the original levels. Not to mention the same result occuring simply by openning the saved project after having made such audio level adjustments.
So, I have gone from inability to adjust the audio using the audio panel as expected, to finding out that no matter which method I use, I can not simply adjust my audio levels period without the cross-fade transition changing to a rough sudden spike and drop of the audio levels.
I can't imagine I am the only one having this problem.
BTW, I have experienced this behavior on my original installation of MSP 8 before the most recent version of the service pack, after the latest service pack, and since my complete fresh installation of Windows XP SP2 on a new hard drive along with a fresh installation of MSP8 with SP1 as well.
Anyone know a work around?
