Hi Gang,
From previous posts some of you know that I value the opinions and support here. I am building a new video box and have pretty much decided to go with the system I will outline below. Most of my surfing, games etc will be done on other machines... this one will be set aside for (mostly) my graphics and video stuff. That said, since my platform is MSP 8 and all the associated stuff that goes with it.. and around it, if any of you guys has had a problem with something I am looking at including in the system, please please let me know. Also, I am going to be putting in a blu ray or HD burner... that will be in a few months... so for now I am just going with a cheapo no name dvd burner just to get by.
CPU AMD Athlon 64 4400+ 2.2ghz dual core
Mboard ASUS a8n32sli deluxe
memory (2) pc3200 ddr400 1 gig
video ATI Radeon x1900gt dual dvi with tv out
Power supply Antec 550w
boot drive 170 gig seagate
video drives (2) sata 250 seagate
windoze xp pro oem sp2
Thanks guys and gals... for any suggestions. After its done, I will report back on how well? it works.

Just curious, what will you be using for a monitor?
I think you have the right idea. I also got tired of problems with video editing because of having so much "stuff" on my computer that I decided to order a new computer dedicated to my video/graphics work. One of the things I really wanted was more "real estate" on my screen (without going to dual monitors because of desk space). My system shipped yesterday and will be delivered on Tuesday. The specs are below:
Dell XPS 600
Pentium D 940 w/Dual Core (3.2GHz, 800FSB)
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 667MHz
2 x 320GB Hard Drives
256MB nVidia GEForce 7900 GS (overkill, but lowest card offered with system)
24" UltraSharp 2405FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel

Re: What monitors?
Hi Jday
For the time being I will be using two samsung 19 inch flatscreens with a Mitsubishi 32 in tv as an output monitor. I am looking now into a smallish hd tv to use in the mitsys place. That will be when I upgrade the burner to something hdish.

Worth considering are Hard Drive Caddies
a few google results here
You probably know what caddies are but just in case you don't, very briefly you have a carrier that fits into one of the drive bays - like your DVD writer. The hard drive fits into a case that slides into the carrier.
Physically it is the same as fitting the hard drive inside the computer in the normal way. The carrier though enables the hard drive to be slid out and another slid in.
This opens up several possibilities. You can slip in a hard drive for back ups. another hard drive for an alternative operating system.
It justs adds some flexibility.
