Import mp3 files to play in a Menu?

I'm not at home right now so cannot double check but I think that the steps with MovieFactory are the same or almost identical to VideoStudio when you get to the authoring stage.

Please view this link
Authoring a DVD
I read the linked instructions but either overlooked or missed the part about getting imported .mp3 files to play when added to a Menu during the development (authoring?) of a DVD in MF5.

I have no problems with custimized menus and backgrounds but unless I choose one of the bundled mp3 files in Content\Audio using the Menu Edit tab I do not have sound with the Menu.

I have copied (and also renamed according to the format in the folder) my desired music files into the Audio folder. They can be selected from the dropdown file list as is normally done. They will play by clicking on them. They will not play during preview nor in the fadein/out editor. And of course not on the finished DVD.

I have requested information from ULead Support but have not received an answer.

So if someone can explain how to do it so my thick head can absorb it, I'll be grateful. :P

Are you sure there is not audio on the final dvd.

Or the codec used to create the music files isn't on your computer.
When browsing to insert music you can highlight the file and select information to see the properties of the audio files.
You can post the properties of the audio files back to this thread.

I'm certain that my "imported" files do not play on the DVD. The bundled files do.

Characterestics of the non-playing file are:

Audio Type: MPEG Audio Layer 3 Files
Total Samples: 796,032 Samples
Attributes: 12000 Hz, 16 Bit, Mono
Layer: 3
Bit rate: 16 Kbps

A primary difference in the above and the playing files seems to be in the bit rate. E.G. my 16 K vs. bundled 192 K if I recall correctly. At least it's on that order.

In my limited wisdom I was assuming that a codec that would play the sound over the sound card would also play it over a DVD or test mpeg playing over that same system. I'm willing to be corrected on that score.

Try converting them into WAV files. You can do this with the FREE audio editor Audacity. It can be found in our links to free stuff

That is such a low bitrate I'm not sure.
I've only seen such low-bitrates on files that were compiled to Stream. Such as when
you listen to radio shows on the net etc. Or, another mp3 compression scheme similar to
nero's mp3pro codec.

Like steve says you need to convert those files using an editor.

I suspect you are correct. I just finished converting one file to .wav and it played properly. I then reconverted it back to .mp3 and it played. Interesting since in it's original format of mp3 it would not play in the intro.

Another file (naturally the one I really wanted for the intro) is apparently corrupt since it will not convert to .wav even after a second download. It will play in media player but not in the intro. Oh well...

Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep playing to see if I can spot something worth reporting. :(

All is not lost.... download something like Memo Session Recorder
Play your soundtrack in Media Player and at the same time record it.
In fact come to think of it, Audacity will record it also.

Thanks very much to MD and Steve.

I found another source for the file I wanted (the one that keeps failing) and with Audacity I did the same as with the other. Converted to wav and back to .mp3. It now plays as an mp3. Thanks to the good guys my problem is resolved!
