This may help: VS has a naming convention for labelling the clips that end up in the library. Each clip is automatically called uvs (OK, so Ulead created it) todaysdate (helps you keep track if you want) and sequential numbers from there; followed by the period and file type.

So if you see a clip called uvs140205.001.wmv you'll be OK.

Go to "File", then "Change Capture Plugin" and select "Windows Media Format Capture Plugin".

The only format specific to Ulead Videostudio are the .VSP files that contain project information, such as what files have been added to it, what transitions to use, what filters to apply etc.

Everything else uses standard file formats. If you capture using the Windows Media Format Capture Plugin, you'll be capturing files with a .WMV extension, which get saved to the capture directory, and which may also be listed in the Library. The Library is nothing more than a list of previously captured or rendered files.

Right-click on the file you have captured, and look at the Properties. The file name will tell you where the file was saved, and what format it is in.

If that doesn't help, please explain exactly what you are doing.

Totally new to this..

When I first started captureing when I stopped and tried to save the clip it would lock-up.. I did nothing to set-up the file except capture..it saved these files as a Windows media file.. I did something in the set-up.. I dont know what I did but it started to save properly. But now they are saved as a Ulead Video File. I can't get it to save again as a WVM even if I change to a MVM file.. It saves as a Ulead Video File in play back..

Note that this info pertains to VS7 but it should be similar if not identical to VS8. Image follows directions.

First turn on your cam or VCR. At this point do not hit play. Open VS8.

1. Select the capture window.
2. Select the capture settings tab
3. Select your source at this point, if your using a VCR or a analog cam select your capture card. The blue screen or whatever it displays on your TV when stopped should be viewable in the preview window. If your using a digital cam it may display the frame it's on or a black screen if the cam is in standby mode. You can advance it one frame using the buttons below the preview windo to bring up the frame if it's not displayed.
4. Select the format you want to capture the video in, which one depends on what you want to do with it. If your going to be using it for the web or computer playback WMV is fine.
5. Note the capture folder this is where the video is going to be stored in WMV format if you selected WMV. you can find the full path by placing clicking on it and advance the cursor with the arrow key on your computer to the end. Write it down if you wish.
6. If your using a digital cam click the capture button and the video should start playing in the preview window. If you using a VCR or analog cam press play on the cam and start the capture. When your done press stop capture, if your using a digital cam the cam should stop. If using a analog cam or VCR you'll need to stop it your self.
7. The first frame of video you just captured should be now displayed here as thumbnail, also on the right it should be displayed in the library as a thumbnail.
8. Other clips can be added to the timeline from here.

**Advaced options for capture can be found here.

Note: Unless you want to edit the footage, burn it to disc etc. Nothing further needs to be done. You can access the clip from My Computer or a Media Player by following the file path set in step 4.
