G'day Heinz . . . Thanx for the reply.
OK . . . good to hear that Uleads (current) encoder should do such a good job. I guess the questions are:
1.) Do I have the current (codec?) encoder? How do I go about finding that out?
2.) What is it or is that kind of trade secret?
3.) What information (and how do I get it) can I provide to you to assist me?
Thanx again. Much appreciated!
PS Yes my AVI file IS roughly one hour in duration. . How did you know that!?
Poor quality DVD footage

Because one hour DV-AVI comes in at 13 GB
Ulead products use the mpeg.now encoder. When I was using MSP 6.5 a few years ago, I used the TMPGEnc encoder with AVISynth frame server to get good quality mpeg files.
The new encoder that became available with MSP 7 was improved to the degree that my old approach became redundant.
Because DVD WS 2 is getting a bit long in the teeth, I can't be sure if it uses the latest encoder. I would be surprised though, if it didn't.
Since I don't use DVD WS, as you can see by my signature, you will have to wait until someone comes around who does and is willing to answer your remaining questions.
I think I'm not sticking my neck out too far in claiming that you won't be able to find another competitive product out there that will give you the power of ULEAD's product for the same capital outlay or less.

Yep great for sharing video over the internet. However it is NOT a DVD compliant format and so WILL be converted to MPEG2 in order that the VOB files can be produced.poisson wrote:............ I ask as I've been experimenting encoding to Xvid and the quality to (end) file size ratio is amazing!.........

It is not only my view. I'm not easily satisfied but am now using the Ulead encoder only. Feel free to get a second/third/fourth opinion.poisson wrote:Thanx heaps for that info Heinz-Oz
May I ask and please don't take offence, is the above quote/observation definitely very much on the objective side?heinz-oz wrote: The new encoder that became available with MSP 7 was improved to the degree that my old approach became redundant.
I'm with Heinz. Since MSP7 and WS2 I use only the Ulead encoder.
